tripleRRR Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 Just a quick question for the Obsidian employees and management. Have you ever thought about doing something besides RPGs and the console DA games? Like an FPS or RTS or something? Just my curiosity talking. TripleRRR Using a gamepad to control an FPS is like trying to fight evil through maple syrup.
Chris Jones Posted May 12, 2004 Posted May 12, 2004 RTS games don't interest me much, but I would love to do a FPS or a first person action/RPG game someday.
Morgoth Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 Ahh, FPS/RPG's like System Shock2 or Deus Ex.... that's one of my favorite kind of game-genre mixes. I also found the concept behind Omikron: The Nomad Soule very attractive... but the crappy controls prevented me to play it through. I would gladly see a game by Obsidian like this in the future... Rain makes everything better.
McBaine Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 Have you ever thought about doing something besides RPGs and the console DA games? Of course!!! I have great fun playing RTS's and I enjoy FPS's but personally, I'd love to make a 3rd-person action game! McBaine
FrankK Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I've always wanted to do a text-based FPS. I think something like System Shock would be a blast to make, or a squad-based FPS (ala Rainbow 6, Republic Commando, etc).
triCritical Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 Why can't you guys like to make isometric tactical games. Not RTS, they are normally oxymorons. But I would love to play a tactical isometric game, like Silent Storm and JA2.
Guest Michael Chu Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I've always wanted to make an adventure game...
sniggy Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 i've always wanted to make a holodeck game It's very hard to be polite if you're a cat.
Cantousent Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I've always wanted to make an adventure game... Do it. They can't be nearly as expensive to make as other genres. I still play adventure games. It's the only genre my wife and I have finished together. Come on, Mr. Chu, think of the fans. THINK OF THE FANS! triCritical Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 I've always wanted to make an adventure game... uh.. you are making an adventure game. Well at least you are making a sequal to an adventure game, with a lot of crumby combat. Hopefully you guys will make it more like an CRPG. And before you call me a one trick pony, BG was an RTS game, with just a smaller scope.

Raven Posted May 21, 2004 Posted May 21, 2004 how bout doing a game like dark reign 2? cmon, try to make dark reign 3! heh, i used to play that game nonstop, and there used to be rumors of a dark reign 3, too bad it was never made
Ferret Posted May 21, 2004 Posted May 21, 2004 Besides RPGs, I'd like to make RPGs. Hee hee... OK, seriously if I have to choose another genre. I'd love to make a tactical combat RPG like Final Fantasy Tactics or Vandal Hearts. And if you really are going to force me to take the RPG completely out of the equation, then my genre preference becomes hard to determine. I like the Mech games I worked on a lot, so another one of those would be awesome. -Ferret
