Can you get resting bonuses from them? Will they attack foes which attack my stronghold and get killed? There's no particular reason to aim for this - you can't get the sex bonus at Caed Nua, and they behave exactly like any other hireling, providing a +2 prestige bonus. They don't even leave the Salty Mast. Instead, they just appear in both places. 1 If I'm typing in red, it means I'm being sarcastic. But not this time.
