The net effect of threads like this are nerfs to a range of player abilities. These don't do much to difficulty, but do make the game duller and less varied.

 

I know that it's fun to brag about how awesome of a game player one is, but at this point I'd like to go on record as saying that the balance thing isn't improving the game. Better AI targeting and encounter design would do a lot more for the challenge level than yanking around the game design, Paradox style.
