Shevek Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I will be taking some time this week to make a few posts on the sites people go to read up on games prior to buying. So, I made a post on the Steam forums. I will probably be making a post on Gamefaqs, hmm, Kotaku, I guess (I don't usually visit popular gaming sites)? I dunno. So, if you feel strongly about the game (either way), then spread the word. Most folks that are on the fence oddly may not come here. I have the sense that most of us feel positively about the state of the game. If we alert folks of that as a community, we can have some impact in helping this game have a strong launch and, therefore, have more games like this be made in the future. Just a thought... 2
Headbomb Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Personally, I'll decide after launch if and when to recommend it. If the game's buggy, or there are upcoming gameplay fixes soon after launch, I'll hold on my recommendation until the game is stable enough, fun enough, and bug free enough for bugs to my liking. That could be Day 1. But it could also be 6 months down the road. 1
Shevek Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Hey, we all entitled to our opinions (John Stuart Mill, marketplace of ideas, etc etc). That being said, I only stipulated that we speak to what you know or have read about that hasnt been spread to the general press. Obviously, the full game is an unknown but our experience during this beta may hold value to some and the strength of early sales is fairly important. Just my opinion, obviously.
Odd Hermit Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 People are wary of recommendations before release. And the beta isn't even close to enough content to judge with any confidence. I am optimistic but I'll wait until I play the whole thing, and then I'll be posting on some subreddits with review and probably/hopefully a glowing recommendation with a few caveats.
Headbomb Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Oh indeed, if you feel fine recommending it now, that's certainly your prerogative. I'm not fearing a rerun of Aliens: Colonial Marines here, but if the game turns out to be a buggy mess, well then you'll have some pie on your face. For now I'm telling people that PoE is shaping up very nicely, but that there still are a few issues being ironed out at the moment. I don't like giving my word on something I haven't vetted myself, so I'm holding out. If you've got faith that Obsidian will take care of everything before release, recommend away. Personally, I think we'll need one or two post-launch patch before I'm comfortable recommending it just because reactive games like this tend to have a couple of blind spots when it comes to quest breakers and reactivity. It may also need a balance patch. What's clear to me is that the world is interesting, I want to know more of it, and that every backer beta has made massive improvements over the previous one, both in stability, usability, balance, and general fun. I don't know what state the game will be in on Day 1, but I'm looking forward to it because I know it'll be better than this version. I just don't know if it'll be something I'm willing to put my name next to and say "Yes, if you buy this, you will not regret it and you will have fun." Die hards won't need convincing, but I don't want to tell someone "Hey buy this game" and then it ends up a buggy mess à la Fallout: New Vegas / KotOR 2. So wait and see for me.
Shevek Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Well, if your comfort level isnt there, thats cool. But if it is, then let folks know. Thats all Im saying.
Havelok Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 The large subreddits like /r/Games, /r/Gaming and /r/pcgames will likely have threads read by thousands of people, so supporting those and answering questions from newcomers will always be helpful.
