sirminscalot Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The game frequently crashes when loading new areas on a 2014 Macbook Air. Happens frequently enough that the beta is unplayable on the mac.
0 Quantics Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Are you loading saved games from previous BB versions ?
0 sirminscalot Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Unfortunately, not. I started a brand new game to see if the issue had resolved itself with the beta update. I can play up until I try to enter one of the buildings in town. Loading into a building works fine but when I try to leave the building the game crashes every time.
0 Stilpon Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I have the same problem. It doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does happen enough that it becomes nearly unplayable, even though this update is by far the most playable of the backer betas I've played. I'm also playing on a 2014 Macbook Air. It sometimes also happens when I try to save the game. I'm attaching the Crash Report I get. POE problem report crash.rtf
0 Stilpon Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I'm attaching the same crash report but as a plain text file, to be readable by windowsPOE Crash.txt
0 Qbert Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 it looks like you are using yosemite. This may be related to that bug that was reported with previous beta versions. Can someone try with an alternate OS version to confirm. I am crossing my fingers that the mac version (non-yosemite) will run at release. 1
0 Quantics Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 On Yosemite I can enter and exit buildings fine. I've played for an hour or so the other day and the game didn't freeze/crash once... Can you tell me exactly the steps you took? I'll give this a try when I get home tonight. 1
0 aeonsim Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Have you told stream to revalidate the local game cache? It may have become corrupted as I'm not seeing this either on Yosemite. 1
0 Stilpon Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I did revalidate the game cache but I still got a crash as soon as I tried going to stonewall gorge. Here is the problem report I get POE Problem Report.txtMaybe you're using another Mac? Admittedly, the MacBook Air 11" is not a good gaming rig but I'd be disappointed if I couldn't play the game on it, albeit at lower graphic settings or some such.
0 paddymick Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Just tried the 480 for the first time and I am experiencing the exact same crashes as Stilpon. When saving it freezes completely and when entering new areas the app closes. I am on a 2013 mbAir running Yosemite.
0 Roby Atadero Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 You may be hitting an out of memory / garbage collection on transition crash that we believe was fixed last week. Unfortunately, that fix is not in 480. Twitter: @robyatadero
0 Quantics Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I've got 16GB memory on my laptop so maybe that's why I'm not experiencing the issue?
0 Stilpon Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I've got 16GB memory on my laptop so maybe that's why I'm not experiencing the issue? Yes I imagine that your memory is large enough to withstand whatever has been causing difficulty to our little MacBook Airs You may be hitting an out of memory / garbage collection on transition crash that we believe was fixed last week. Unfortunately, that fix is not in 480. Glad to hear it has been dealt with. Keep up the good work!
0 aeonsim Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 The MacBook Airs have the Intel Graphics right? Which means they have to split there RAM between the Graphics system and the OS/Game, and seeing your model apparently only has 4GB of RAM that's likely to be an issue.
0 Stilpon Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Yep, only 4GB RAM. Do you think that will be insufficient for the actual game?
0 aeonsim Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I'm not sure none of my machines are that low. I suspect 4GB + dedicated graphics would be fine, but 4GB with Intel graphics may be fine. It'll probably depend on how well they manage to optimise the games memory usage (they have been working on that recently). 2
0 Roby Atadero Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Assuming the issue is fixed, 4 GBs should be okay. You'll probably dip into using virtual memory here and there (since your OS uses some of that 4GB and the VRAM uses some more) but, the game should stay running. 1 Twitter: @robyatadero
0 Stilpon Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Thanks for responding - it would have been really difficult to have to wait to get a better machine to play POE! Pretty darn excited
