Things like this are why I love Chris Avellone. In a platonic way. Maybe.

So in essence it would have been an expanded usage of scripted interactions. That's quite a bit of hand drawn art.

I guess it depends on the scripted interaction, but from what I've seen so far, the art for the scripted interactions are extremely simple. Depending on what's going on, if you really want things down, I can't imagine that it takes more than an hour for a good artist, less with training.

With that, I'm not saying that it was the wrong decision to cut it (although my personal preferences lead me to say hell yeah it was) just that it probably wasn't cut because of that.

Writing it all would probably have been a bigger problem than the artpieces.

While i find the idea of the mind dungeon thing, I kinda feel like it's just way too simple solution presented like that. Mind dungeons have been made so many times in JRPGs (and in some ARPGs too) and IMO it would feel a bit out of place in PoE. It's just way too advanced in the current soul-thing, making it as kind of a side-quest just would leave too much unexplained. This is my personal opinion though.

I do think they could add it in as an expansion where the whole story is based on the mind exploration. That wouldn't feel as awkward and the whole concept would be more refined since it's the main focus.

The mind dungeons would've undoubtedly been cool, but all I can think when i hear about them is this:
