Would you be so kind as to consider replacing game status text messages ("GAME PAUSED", "Fast Mode Active [D]", "Slow Mode Active ") with some nice icons instead? This text really looks cheap and kinda disturbs the fantasy experience for me : (

 

Also, I think that it'd be really cool to polish the the icons a bit more, just by making them a bit shinier - it'd give them a more epic feel.

The metal in question would be bronze or brass.

Wood with brass inlays, I'd say.

 

I'm inclined to agree with the note on the game status texts, but I actually like the wooden panels.

This, to me, is a prime example of where the bottom example wins outright. I don't need some reminder of the game title, I want practicality in a style befitting the game world/era.
