Realise that this game is a long way away but a general indication would be useful at least; I'll assume larger than bg1 or 2 allowed (perhaps 2x larger) in a png format for now. You don't need the dimension to start working on a portrait I will bravely raise my sword against anything to protect whoever I choose to serve.
