So what do you guys and gals think about allowing players to make custom portraits? I’ve always thought this was a brilliant feature in Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale etc., because no matter how good the art, it just makes for a much more personal hero and party if you can give them the exact faces you want. I’d love to see the return of this feature in Project Eternity.

 

(In the same vein, it was great to be able to change the appearance/colours of your heroes at any time instead of being ‘stuck’ with a cosmetic choice from the very beginning.)

Sure, why not. It wouldn't be hard to implement.

 

Yes, that’s true, but if they do it, it must be done during development, hence my reason to post about it. ;)

Yup. Custom portraits should be done. If they had them in IWD, BG, and NWN, I don't see why they wouldn't for this game.

They should also either exclude NPC portraits for PC, or somehow indicate that the portrait is being used by someone else in the game. That feel in Baldur's Gate when you come across an NPC with the same portrait as you...

I would hope that the quality and quantity of character portraits in the game is sufficient enough that i'd never have to use a custom portrait feature... but I guess it's always a nice option to have, and not that hard to implement.
