I don't understand why would you ever upgrade this ability over other abilities.

Its purpose is to stun, but both upgrades do not increase this purpose, one increases the chance of knockdown and one increases the damage(completely irrelevant).

Is knockdown accumulative to stun? Is the knockdowned enemy always stunned and on the ground? How long does it last, can you ever knockdown bosses? Does knockdown push the enemy away from you or is it on the same spot?

Knock down pushes the enemy away from you and they do take time to recover back up on their feet. So its effect is similar to stun in a way.

Not sure if knockdown works on bosses. But stun effect do sometimes work on the witch boss of the demo.

So, which one is longer to recover from, stun or knowckdown since stun doesn't stack on knockdown?

Knockdown is longer. I would have to verify it, but there is perhaps the possibility of launching mooks in pits by knocking them down, if you aim for the edge of a cliff.

Knockdown has a small advantage over stun: It moves the enemy. Standing still while punching one guy while 5 others are wailing at you isn't the best strategy in games like DS3. With knockdown, you can stay on the move, even if just a little bit.

Plus you have a visual cue when the enemy recovers, better than counting the seconds IMO.

Well, if knockdown has no effect on bosses there is really no point to it.

Blade Dash is perfectly suited to destroy any enemy that isn't a boss.
