Queensland has it much worse than us. No one died here.

Yeah, they had to evacuate the CBD of Brisbane! That's pretty surreal.

 

To get a scale of the flooding, recently areas larger than France and Germany combined have been under water.

I was just out the back and I was aurally assaulted by 70 billion cicadas. I'm pretty sure it's the apocalypse.

All we need now is an epic dust storm to turn the sky and air blood-red.

I am certainly following the news on this. It's pretty damn sad. Although it's interesting t note what happens when disaster hits a first world nation as opposed to a third world one.

A LITTLE TOWN that almost drowned in Queensland's flash flooding was holding its breath last night as rescuers continued to search for the missing.

 

A torrent of water ripped through Grantham, a town of about 360 people in the Lockyer Valley, south-eastern Queensland, on Monday afternoon, killing at least four people and leaving many more missing.

 

Peter Friend, a regional councillor, described people hanging onto the gutters of their houses, caught in trees, and an entire house that crashed over the railway line towards his house.

The pub had also been destroyed.

 

"It was just unbelievable . . . you just can't comprehend it until you're in the middle of it," he said.

 

Cr Friend tied a ladder to the side of the house and climbed onto the roof with his wife, her 81-year-old mother, and his dogs.

 

Lockyer Creek broke its banks and "came straight down the highway in a big ball" about two or three metres high and about two kilometres wide, he said.

 

It took about 15 minutes from when Cr Friend first saw it on the horizon until it came roaring past.

The rising Bremer River has submerged numerous homes and businesses in Ipswich, with evacuations centres overflowing, Mayor Paul Pisasale said.

 

The mayor was furious after hearing of several reports of looting taking place in flood-affected areas.

 

 

The power of nature is often scary to us puny humans....thoughts are with anyone affected by the floods. :/
