Starwars Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Really interesting read, it's a shame he is not at OEI anymore. Very talented guy. The MotB soundtrack is a fav of mine. The music of Alpha Protocol feels pretty low-key most of the time. It's not really music that jumps out at you, which I think is good. But I *really* enjoy some of the more locational music. There is one track in Saudi Arabia (I wonder if it's the same one he talks about) that's really haunting and some of the Taipei stuff also gives a lot of character to those areas. The sound outside of the music is great as well. The VO of course, but the effects as well. Activating Room Sweep really is a shot of adrenaline because of the sound effects work so well with each other. WorstUsernameEver Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Strangely enough, while the main theme itself didn't do much for me, the various hubs theme helped a lot in setting the mood for me, especially Taipei (the Hong Shi conversation was just fabulous with that oriental theme in the background). And yeah, it's a shame that he isn't working on Obsidian anymore, he seems to be a pretty committed and passionate guy too, which definitely helps.
Starwars Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Yeah, the Hong Shi convo... It's really sorta weird how much the music in the background can help in a situation like that. I also loved the little musical theme that kicks in right as you encounter Omen Deng the first time, really helps the drama of it. I also really like what I guess could be considered the romance theme. That's just beautiful. There are many subtleties that I think they succeeded with. Like the computer room in the Saudi safehouse. You can just tell how hot it can get in there with the computer fans humming away. Sannom Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Interesting interview, although you can feel he is no longer working at Obsidian Also, I thought the game went less serious as time passed by, wtf is that parachute story doing here ???
WorstUsernameEver Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Also, I thought the game went less serious as time passed by, wtf is that parachute story doing here ??? It would have been awesome, but I agree that it didn't really fit the rest of the game, or at least, of the game we've got (dunno about the other iterations).
