Oblarg Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 This is just too bizarre. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cower in fear. American politics are absurd. "The universe is a yawning chasm, filled with emptiness and the puerile meanderings of sentience..." - Ulyaoth "It is all that is left unsaid upon which tragedies are built." - Kreia "I thought this forum was for Speculation & Discussion, not Speculation & Calling People Trolls." - lord of flies
Rosbjerg Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Maybe an explanation for the non-Americans? Fortune favors the bald.
Humodour Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 He looks like a ****. He supports offshore drilling and government intervention in the price of oil, and is against free trade.
Enoch Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Maybe an explanation for the non-Americans? Short version: Political neophyte comes out of nowhere to win the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate election in South Carolina. (It was a very low-turnout primary, given that most people don't expect any Democrat to be a serious challenge for the incumbent Republican senator.) He had little resembling a campaign (no website, yard signs, etc.) but was a decorated veteran just out of the Army. Just after he is declared the winner, two things happen: 1) the SC Democratic establishment finds several irregularities with how he filed for his candidacy (FEC forms and such), and 2) the press breaks the story that he is currently facing felony obscenity charges, having been arrested just last November for showing an 18-year-old woman a porn site in a univeristy computer lab. That aside, here's a much more entertaining Al Green.
Humodour Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 What's wrong with showing an adult person a porn site? Worst I can think of is that it involves university disciplinary action for viewing a porn site on a uni comp, but how does it involve the police?
Enoch Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 What's wrong with showing an adult person a porn site? Worst I can think of is that it involves university disciplinary action for viewing a porn site on a uni comp, but how does it involve the police? It does if the exhibition of whatever was shown on that site to unwilling viewers violates the state's obscenity law and if she gets upset enough to file a complaint with the police. Really, the fact that she would take it the matter to the police would indicate to me that the incident was part of a broader pattern of creepy behavior, rather than just a "take a look at this-- you wouldn't believe what this guy can fit in his bunghole!"
wesley2 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I agree about the obscenity thing, that had to be the last straw. This is a crazy story though, I'm totally shocked he won, but it does seem a bit sketchy...
