Kaftan Barlast Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 We humans are in alot of ways defined by our taste and interests, and if part of yourself becomes open mainstream, you lose a part of your identity. So its completely natural to be protective of your "subcultural territory". Just this weekend, an old band I like played in town. They are not popular and have a very small following. But there was some buzz at school and people started passing out links to their songs and so on. I felt like they were trying to steal this band from me. Im so used to it being just me and three other guys who like them. Fortunantly, people lost interest, didnt go to the concert and so I got to keep em all for myself. Gorth Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Thread pruned slightly. It looks better without some of the pointless flamebait “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
CoM_Solaufein Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I'm not some l33t technonerd who can hack a game's code and alter it the way you want it to, nor do I possess the know how to create a tool to make a mod for game X. I'm one of those modders that has their creativity and ideas for a mod to offer not their technosavvy. Just give me a tool and the instructions to use it and I'm good to go. Walsingham Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I agree with Lucian. It seems counter-intuitive to assert that a good writer/project manager/creator should arbitrarily be required to code as well. Why not insist that chefs should juggle? "It wasn't lies. Kaftan Barlast Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 But at the same time, theres no place in the kitchen for a guy who cant cook. ...did you see what I did there?!! Did you?! Nightshape Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I never really cared for modding. I don't see the fun in it, hacking I can respect, but at a base level all modding is is changing the data which is driven by the engine, it's like fixing up a Astra or Nova(cars) when you're a kid, think pimp my ride etc... Best thing about actual modern development has got to be live update of data, i.e. iteration on the fly. I came up with Crate 3.0 technology. Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.Down and out on the Solomani RimNow the Spinward Marches don't look so GRIM!
Kaftan Barlast Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 A lot of times modding is just like that. You take a toaster and bash it with a hammer trying to make it look like a waffel iron, sometimes you get kind of close, but usually not. But at the same time, theres no place in the kitchen for a guy who cant cook. ...did you see what I did there?!! Did you?! You mean apart from the Kps, the dishwasher, the cellarman, the wine waiter... Well, I hope you're proud of yourself for ruining my analogy, mr fancypants! CoM_Solaufein Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 The majority of modding is bringing new life to a game. Its not any different compared to an "official" expansion pack for a game.
