mr insomniac Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I've ordered a new computer through ncix.com, custom designed the way I want it, which they would then assemble, test, and ship to me. I received an e-mail from them today, saying that the motherboard I've chosen, an ASUS P5K Premium WIFI-AP ATX, does not support the SLI capabilities of my two video cards, Galaxy 8800GTs. However it does support "crossfire" mode. The two Galaxy 8800GTs do not support "crossfire" mode. So they're waiting for me to decide which to replace, the motherboard or the video cards. My preference is to replace the motherboard, since I admit I didn't do enough research, and basically chose it on brand recognition. My question is more of a request really. Can anyone help me find a motherboard similar to the above, that does support SLI mode for my video cards? Any help is appreciated. I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God. So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me? Nothing personal. It's just revenge.
mkreku Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Just choose one using Nvidia's own motherboard circuits, the Nforce family. I could recommend the Asus Striker II Formula for example )since you seem to trust the Asus brand), but I don't know what price class we're talking about or what kind of features that are important to you. The Asus Striker II Formula is good for performance and overclocking, for example (my kind of board).. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
mr insomniac Posted April 19, 2008 Author Posted April 19, 2008 Thanks for the help. I'm not technically saavy enough for overclocking... as you can tell, I picked a motherboard built for ATI videocards, heh. I've decided to go with the evga nforce 790I motherboard instead. mkreku Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I thought the 790I chipset was for DDR3 RAM modules? I must have been mistaken. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Deraldin Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I thought the 790I chipset was for DDR3 RAM modules? I must have been mistaken. You're right. He wants a 780I not a 790I.

Thank you again. EDIT: Hey, at least I'm not trying to assemble it myself. Edited April 20, 2008 by mr insomniac I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story.
