Clint_johnston22
Ok, so I recently built (clarification: Had built) a new computer. Has a souped up video card. NVIDIA 8600 GTS to be precise. For some reason it is not working with KOTOR2. I can play for about 5 minutes, and the video goes to pot. I believe it is probably a driver issue (6.14.0011.6921), I think the newest drivers are connecting with the game because it is older. Someone suggested that the game is not understanding the drivers for the newer cards because of a reading error. I wondered if a patch could be constructed to fix this. So I came here to the game developers site. Hope I wasn't too unclear. Tell me what details you needand i'll get them for you.

Deadly_Nightshade
Kotor II does not like duel-core CPUs, you should try running it on one of the two cores. "Geez. Deadly_Nightshade
on my single coreVS. dual core threre really isn't a difference in performance. You might have a duel processor (id est a Core 2 Duo), those are different from a dual core and do not have many of the problems that come up with those CPUs. samm
Huh? Spreading fud, are we? It really doesn't matter to your OS if your processor has two cores "glued together" (C2D) or two cores on one die (X2). Also, if the game was having issues with the dual core processor, this would likely produce different results than the video going pot, in the OPs words. I still wait for results, but video problems occurring after a certain time in game are more often related to overheating or ram issues, probably driver problems. So if setting the core affinity doesn't help, check your temps during gameplay. Citizen of a country with a racist, hypocritical majority

Deadly_Nightshade
Also, I've been told that single core games simply only use core of the dual (and yes I'm sure) core processor. Yes, but sometimes they try to use both and glitch - you should disable one for that application. "Geez. Lidda-Bit
Above you said you had 4 gigs of ram, but in that readout it only listed 2 gigs. Might want to make sure your other 2 gigs are okay in there Do you have any problems so far in other games? And holy bantha poodoo, are you playing at 640x480 like that says? Clint_johnston22
Not to my knowledge. (I had it on 1024x768, but also tried it with 800x600) I'll check out the ram thing.

Clint_johnston22
Nope. But you guys who thought processor were close. See below (I typed a form letter, so sue me) Many thanks to all for their suggestions and assistance. I FINALLY got somewhere. both my KOTOR and KOTOR 2 TSL games are now working. Video wise anyhow. I found the answer on Lucasarts tech support forum. A user named Emkay1001 suggested to someone else with the same problem that they upgrade their processor drivers. He provided links (see below) and now the video on my game is working properly. Now if I could just learn how to be more evil some way, My dark side characters always suck! Lidda-Bit
Oh! Of course that was it , no game really runs well without those. I almost never suggest those as a fix because I thought they were pretty much standardly installed right after windows is.
samm
Haha, my bad guessing that it couldn't be the processors fault Btw, I thought that an update for Win XP made the dual core optimizer obsolete quite some time ago... Anyway, glad it works now Citizen of a country with a racist, hypocritical majority
Darth_Windu
Yeah that was an odd one, I have almost the exact system but with only 2Gb of RAM and an 8500GT. I would suggest you remove some of your RAM though, XP doesn't recognise 4Gb and it will actually make your system run slower.
