I'd be interested to hear if anyone has read the 2007 Samuel Johnson Prize winner for Non Fiction Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Baghdad's Green Zone.

Is that prize for anything or just being "outstanding?"

Panel of appointed people read loads of books and decide which they think is the best, every year.

So, it's based on entertainment merit.

It's a non-fiction book selection. The panellists are chosen, presumably on their achievements in their respective fields (science, history, media, publishing, etc).

 

The book is being made into a film, too.

I haven't read it. If I want to know I don't read a book clearly intended to pander to the general public, I ask someone who's just come back from there.
