astr0creep
They could still stock sperm and ova. What if the entire surface of the planet is destroed and no living thing survives except for whats in the vault? If no one is there to jump start the life creation process, how is having this vault usefull? There needs to be some sort of automatic incubation process that would bring the ova to maturity, allow growth of the embrio until a living, breathing human being pops out of a tank or something. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/

Hehe, you better also develop a robot that will teach those people about life or that living, breathing human isnt even going to know how to wipe its own butt much less restock the Earth. Humans have evolved since the stone age, they can do it again. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/

In this case everyone will be starting from nil in a room full of technology they couldnt possibly understand. If the entire surface of the planet is destroyed, then it's game over, man. (That means the soil is dead.) A much better idea is to populate a planet / moon somewhere else, as per Stephen Hawking's recent observation. Sand
This is where nanotechnology and cloning techniques come in. You create a self repairing automated facility that has the store house of human knowledge with a artificial intelligence system running the show. At a specified time the system goes active and artificial seminates the sperm and ova in an artificial womb. Do some DNA tweaking to allow the first reborn humans to allow for accelerated growth and use direct data transference from the knowledge core of the AI to the human brain. This first generation will then start the process for a more tradition growth and reclamation effort for the second and subsequent generations. Murphy's Law of Computer Gaming: The listed minimum specifications written on the box by the publisher are not the minimum specifications of the game set by the developer. @\NightandtheShape/@ - "Because you're a bizzare strange deranged human?"
