Sony trying to make amends? The 20 GB version IS going to have a HDMI port. SO basically they've added a new, important feature AND cut the price.

 

Stop it, Sony, you're making me confused! We're supposed to hate every decision you make!!

Sony spokeswoman Nanako Kato said there were no plans to lower the price in other markets.

The higher-end PS3 will go for a set $599 stateside, but will carry an "open price" in Japan--meaning retailers can charge whatever price they like. Given that there will be only 100,000 units available on day one in the country, that price is likely to be quite high.

I wonder how long it will take for the stores in Japan to sell the PS3 at the lower price

Ha, I'd bet thats only because the HD-DVD add on for the 360 has no HDMI port. So now the basic PS3 and basic 360+HD-DVD drive are around the same price except that Sony has got one up over MS by adding HDMI.

 

It sucks (for me) that the price cut is only in Japan. I guess it makes sens from Sony's point of view - Japan is Sony's home marlet and accounts for 25 million of all PS2 sales.
