July 7, 200619 yr I just bought the game and I am getting terrible lag at every point of the game so far, I can barely create a character without gettin frustrated with the lag. How can I correct this? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You could get the low-rez mod from the TES:IV web site... ~DN~ P.S. PC PWNS X-Box360 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 360 gets pwnd only because of the lack of mountain texture mods. Current 3DMark
July 7, 200619 yr The PC will always be superior to a console system. It's not really a competition. Performance wise, the PC sets the standard. A console can copy a top of the line PC, but by the time it's put into production, newer technology is already available. There are other reasons for getting a console.
July 7, 200619 yr Actualy the 360 graphics card has features that wont be implemented on desktop cards untill next generation. So at release time consoles can definetly have nicer bells and whistles then a PC. But yeah in a year or so the PC will probably have passed the 360 on all points again (with the possible exeption of only having 2 cpu cores, but then those 2 are more advanced...).
July 7, 200619 yr It's impossible to tell. The Source engine is probably playable on a DirectX 7 compatible video card while Oblivion uses all the latest bells and whistles. In other words; Source runs on anything, Oblivion is very picky about its GPU's. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
July 7, 200619 yr Quick question... if I can play Bloodlines, can I play this? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's also difficult to tell because Bloodlines was so weird about what it would run smoothly on, considering I've heard it runs decent on some lower end systems (note: lower, not necessarily meaning low), while some with high end systems had trouble. Bloodlines seemed to be one of those "buy it and cross your fingers" types. "Console exclusive is such a harsh word." - Darque"Console exclusive is two words Darque." - Nartwak (in response to Darque's observation)
July 7, 200619 yr Actually I should clarify that. I can run Bloodlines really well. Oblivion the odds are it'd run like crap. I could still play it, but it wouldn't be a terribly enjoyable experience. I'm waiting until after I upgrade because of this, and hey, it means I get the game for $20 instead of $50 with a little bit of luck and patience. RIP
July 7, 200619 yr If you mentioned your video card your answer will be more accurate, maybe. Current 3DMark
July 7, 200619 yr You're good. Just turn off the grass now and then while leaving everything else medium/high, and play at 1024x768 resolution. Current 3DMark
July 7, 200619 yr I don't think the X800 has Shader Model 3.0 support though. I'm thinking the Oblivion gates would be a problem.. among other more obscure things (like certain spells). Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
July 7, 200619 yr Only the ATI r520 series (x1000's) and newer support ShaderModel 3.0, while nVidia included support for it in their Geforce6 series and onward Random amazing fact: Hl2 actually uses ShaderModel 2.0 HDR Edited July 7, 200619 yr by Kaftan Barlast DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. July 7, 200619 yr I think it should be alright. X800 is about on par with the geforce 6800. They were competing. HDR requires SM 3 however, so the X800 can only do bloom. @Kaftan: That's why it was compatible with AA then Edited July 7, 200619 yr by Bokishi Current 3DMark
July 7, 200619 yr I was still able to adequately play the game with lower detail settings on my Radeon 9800 Pro. Darque shouldn't have a problem.
