Meshugger
I've never played any of the Suikoden games, but i since the fifth one seems to have gotten pretty ok'ish reviews, i might give it a try. Has anyone here tried it? Good? Bad? Ugly? astr0creep
I loved S2 so I now own 3 and I don't like it so I never played 4 because of bad reviews and I'm still undecided about 5. So no. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Haitoku
It's one of the best JRPGs on the PS2. I was playing it non-stop until I finished it. The only problems I can point out are the camera angles (such a obvious throwback), low difficulty (auto-battled 90% of the time) and in my opinion, it's somewhat impossible to get all SODs without using a guide on first playthroughs... Other then that, lovely game. Great story and cast of characters. The large scale naval and ground battles are very fun. They also added a timer to the duels which adds a little spice to it. EDIT: @ astr0creep Consider playing SIV, if you can get past the system changes (4-player battles, etc) it's really not that bad of a game... I'm enjoying it. Kitch
If you Liked Suikoden II, but not III or IV, then you will probably love Suikoden V. It really is kind of a throwback to the 2nd game's style.
astr0creep
There was time when S3 was somewhat rare and I managed to get my hands on a copy. I paid about 80CAN$ for it which is 20$ more than the usual retail price. I was quite bummed by the boredom it induced. So I'm reluctant to try another one. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Oerwinde
Suikoden V is the 2nd best Suikoden game. The first 6 or so hours are kinda slow, but the story is *just* good enough to keep you playing, then once it gets into the war part, it just takes off and becomes awesome. Its like yeah, you're royalty, being royalty is boring, you get to be all diplomatic and attend boring parties. Then BAM everything changes and now you're the leader of a rebel army. Just a hint though. I like to play with mostly front line fighters, and the end boss cuts through front line fighters like a hot knife through butter. So make sure to level up some mages, because they're the only ones who stand a chance. Suikoden IV is ok. The mechanics changes were annoying, the original Suikoden concept artist is not nearly as good as the one they got for 2 and 3, so the designs suffered, and the story is very badly paced. Just as it was starting to get good it ended. Edited June 7, 2006 by Oerwinde The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity. I took nothing but front line fighters to the last battle with a certain stance (you know what I'm talking about!) and I actually managed to Autobattle it.... LOL <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I took Richard, Belcoot, Main Guy, Bodyguard Chick, Belcoot's chick rival, and... I can't remember who else. My end boss fights tend to last like 3-4 rounds. First round, I deal mad damage, have mad damage dealt to me. 2nd round, I heal, but have 3 characters killed anyway. 3rd round, I heal, have all but one character killed. 4th round, all characters dead. When the boss has an attack that deals 300-400 damage, and does it every turn, and most of my characters only have 300-400 hp, its no fun anymore. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
