The title of the thread reads RPGs, doesn't say anything about D&D.

The quote from the OP makes a comparison between D&D based games and others, wether consciously or not. The quoter seems to believe that D&D based games were "Old-School" and the others are "New-School", mainly refering to FPRPGs like ES games.

Such a comparison is erronous, as during Baldur's Gate's reign, M&Ms, Wizardry, System Shock, etc were also quite popular.

"Old-School" has more to do with technology, interface and gameplay than simple perspective or being skill/stats based.

Of course my post was not as detailed as this one since :

1- I was in somewhat of a hurry, being at work and all and

2- I consider people here to be smart enough to read between the lines.

My mistake. :)

Old?? as someone who played the original D&D box set back in the late 70's at UVA with some of the folks that went on to form Iron Crown Enterprises (no we're really talking old school!)---I beginning to feel more like ancient dragon status---
