Hurlshort Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Dubliners is good stuff...depressing as hell though. I started a new series by Bernard Cornwell about the Holy Grail. The first book was called Archer. It's a good change from his Napoleonic War era series. He's a very solid historical fiction author.

Chupacabra Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Finished Hamlet. Good play. Probably the best of his I've read so far. Once I have time, I fully intend to start Macbeth. :D I'm also reading The Wastelands: the Dark Tower part III by Stephen King on and off.
Dark_Raven Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Good to see people reading the classics instead of smut. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

metadigital Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I just found it! The book that has been haunting me for months; the book that I mentioned last year and the name of which I couldn't remember ... It's Frank McLynn's 1759 (subtitled The year Britain became Master of the World). From the back: Although 1759 is not a date as well known in British history as 1215, 1588 or 1688, there is a strong case to be made that it is the most significant year since 1066. Pidesco Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Are you talking about the similarites between Holy Blood Holy Grail and The Da Vinci Code? No, I'm talking about the awful writing, the shallow characterization, the craptastic, predictable story and the complete waste of a perfectly good theme for a book.
