You could try playing with the compatibility settings like Karka said. Someone -- Baley, I think -- gave detailed instructions in how to do that in my Fallout thread, screenshots and all. Might help :(

As capable of inconvenience, and of some damage and debt to those that would act against my interests, I cannot f*^ng argue with dangerous.

Twas Jags.

This is very strange.

I've never had any trouble with any of the IE games on XP.

Wha type of an error do you get?

I've never had a problem getting any of the BG games to work in XP. If it doesn't work once you've patched I can't think what you'd do.

We now bring you live footage from the World Championship Staring Final.

It could be a service pack causing issues. I heard the SP2 pack causee some games not to work. I have XP on all of my machines and never had any problems running IE games. I also have SP1 installed since I heard about SP2 problems with games.

I refuse to install SP2. I try to tell people all the time about SP2 and no one seems to listen, despite the fact that I am an IT Professional.

When I work on other people's PCs, I alter their NTOSKRNL.EXE file, just so SP2 can't install. If the installer detects a modified kernel, it will refuse to install.

I just refuse to allow it to update :*

It's a pain because it pops up every time I turn on my comp, but meh, no biggie, it leaves me SP2 free :)

You can disable the Automatic Update service.

In fact, there are several services you can disable in Windows to improve performance. Google for a guide. I know blackviper.com has one.
