Cantousent
I wonder if the poor guy appreciates everyone speculating on his luck. At least I was careful not to point out his bad luck even in my critical threads. At any rate, I don't see how he could possibly be blamed for this business with Gauntlet. After all, it looks like MIdway was having problems long before Sawyer showed up at the doorstep. Obsidian had KotOR 2 and is developing NWN 2. I think Sawyer's luck is about to change. I hope so, if only because I want to see good games. Hell, I hope he has good luck because he seems like a decent enough fellow and I hope he does well. I hope the whole company does. Just because there is a general trend to simplify the interface to three buttons, doesn't mean it has to be that way. And the PC comes with a 110-key keyboard included. metadigital
...It's pretty bad that we get to see another of Saywer's project cancelled, or at least a version of the project. Hopefully he'll have better luck with his projects at Obsidian. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sawyer is a Jonah! j/k Guys, I think you are overlooking the fact that some ludicrous percentage of games projects and development companies go belly-up in the aquarium (60%?) Volourn
This console vs. PC thing needs to stop. PC games have crappy RPGs. So does consoles. PC has good RPGs. So does consoles. The point? As for Guantlet. It looks to be a fun action game. I'll enjoy playing it on the PS2 if it actually comes out. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250. EnderAndrew
The whole PC vs Console debate is sad. As it has been said before, there are good and bad games on all platforms. Get over it and move on. http://ctrlaltdel-online.com/?t=archives&date=2005-02-05 I would like to point out that I never said anything bad about Sawyer except that he has bad luck. It seems some people have been intrepeting that to mean he is somehow at fault for his projects being canned. I don't think Sawyer is in anyway at fault. What little we've seen of Jefferson and Van Buren lead us to believe they were truly great projects. How else would he get such a great reputation from what little we've actually seen released from him? And while the Gauntlet games really aren't that great, Seven Sorrows did look to be the best of the Gauntlet games. It added story, got rid of the cartoony visuals, etc.

Standardized machines are better than 100000000000 possible configuration machines. Accept it, and move on.

His post didn't say anything about the console market and PC market being equal in terms of games produced, which was easier, which way the market was going, etc. From that quote he's just saying that both console and PC have bad games, and both have good games. SteveThaiBinh
The console market is eating up the PC market as the consoles are becoming better gaming machines and easier to create for. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's a worry, certainly. I was stunned when a dev suggests that 75% of Kotor 2 sales were on X-Box in the US, and that excludes X-Box sales in Europe. On the other hand, I'd rather see the RPG genre survive on consoles than virtually disappear altogether (as happened to old-style adventures :'( ). The Kotors show that really excellent RPGs can appear on consoles, and hopefully PNJ will show that even an 'action-RPG' can have decent characters and story. It's a shame I won't get to play Gauntlet, because there seemed to be a lot of optimism about it, before its designers left. I suppose that whether it's really an RPG or not depends on your definition and won't be clear until it's actually released. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." EnderAndrew
I've seen the debate countless times. I can argue for either side with convincing arguements in regards to power or strengths. However, the arguement is off-topic and fairly pointless. My sole point remains that good and bad games exist on both platforms. Blanket statements about the platforms are often silly and wrong. Can we move forward and hop on topic?
Hydrogen
how about we get back on topic about the game itself, and not go off on an argument of PC vs. console?
Darque
But isn't it relavent though? Seeing as it seems they canned the PC version? If they're keeping the console versions... that's a pretty telling statement
EnderAndrew
Maybe this has nothing to do with money problems at Midway. Maybe the felt the game didn't have much of a market on the PC.
Cantousent
Along those lines, I've been thinking that games like Gauntlet, where the PC version is almost an afterthought, might not be better off sticking to a single platform until they sell. Gauntlet didn't go up in flames, as Darque rightfully says. The PC version was cancelled. Is that a comment about PC v Console, Midway's finances, or Midways strategy for marketing games to consoles? SteveThaiBinh
I suppose that if Gauntlet turns out to be a smash hit, there might be an expanded PC version released later, along the lines of Fable: The Lost Chapters. Presumably some work on making it PC compatible has already been done, and there always seems to be cut content lying around on the floor these days, so it could be financially viable.
