The best part is the way he keeps getting Virgil's name wrong. :p

"Wut we do now, Virgul?"

I only think of the poor writers who has to write an extra 10000 lines of "dumb" dialouge on top of the regular. :p

DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. If there is no clear indication, asume the post is written in jest. This notification is meant very seriously and its purpouse is to avoid misunderstandings and the consequences thereof. Furthermore; I can not be held accountable for anything I write on these forums since the idea of taking serious responsability for my unserious actions, is an oxymoron in itself.

Important: as the following sentence contains many naughty words I warn you not to read it under any circumstances; botty, knickers, wee, erogenous zone, psychiatrist, clitoris, stockings, bosom, poetry reading, dentist, fellatio and the department of agriculture.

Dumb dialogue gest old pretty quick. I remember trying in both FO1, and FO2. It was funny for the first bet; but eventually I just got annoyed by the nonsense and restarted the game. The same for NWN, and Arcanum which I think is the only othe rgames that i can remember that have full fledge 'dumb dialogue'.

DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

Haven't played the games in question, but if I understand the concept correctly (I'm sure I'll be corrected if I don't :D ) there is seperate dialogue for the PC, depending on their INT ability score?

No?

Then what's the point?

I think there should be extra dialogue options depending on ability. I remember the Paladin series where one's PC was able to Detect Evil in a conversation (not a core ability, one that Rick Burton deliberately added).

So too the [Wisdom] and [intelligence] options, there should also conceivably be penalties applied for INT 3 characters ... I'm sure they'd be easier to do a Jedi-mind-trick on, so they would have a convo like this:

Jedi: These aren't the droids you're looking for.

==============================

NPC: [1] These aren't the droids we're looking for.

NPC: [2] I'm tired I think I'll gfo lie down.

Jedi: He can go about his business.

==============================

NPC: [1] You can go about your business.

NPC: [2] That's a pretty brooch, can I have it.

Jedi: Move along.

==============================

NPC: [1] Move along, move along!

NPC: [2] My head hurts. I think I'll clean it with my gun ...

It's a similar issue, but did anyone ever play the crazy vampires in Bloodlines all the way through? I also found this funny for a short while, but lost interest after the beginning.

My recollection of Arcanum was that as the game progressed, your dumb dialogue options provoked fewer dumb-specific responses, as if the writers also got rather tired of it.

I find dialogue that reflects a PC's mental skill to be as important as crafting situations which vary depending on a PC's physical skill. Dumb dialogue can be just as boring as a continuous botched attempt when trying to open a lockpick or cast a high level spell without the required stat being at the necessary level.

It's definitely one way to encourage peopel to play smarter characters and not tank. In my case the only good reason I might have for not tanking is that I get to see more interesting views on the story.

Didn't Plansecape Torment have something like this?

"It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"."

tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

I can tell you catagorically that Flatland did not have any reference to the above.

Torment did not have dumb dialogue, because all attributes - including Intelligence - never got below 7, so there wasn't much of a point in including it.
