In my countless hours of pondering the meaning of life, I began to question the affinity people have towards manga. Why do people enjoy this form of art, what about it makes them so excited by the presence of out of proportion chartoon characters in the act of love? If anyone has the answer to any of these questions please post them here and remember to keep it clean.

Same reason people enjoy any other film/tv programs, something well done is almost always worth watching. Films such as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Macross plus are all great (One I'd definatly recomend is Katsuhiro

i do consider manga as art, just as western comics as well. while the mickey mouse, superman (and all these schtupid hero-stuff) and - on the manga-side - dragonball or sailor moon kind of comics are much too comercially oriented and lack in style (imo), there are still gifted persons drawing them.

owning only record of lodoss war (yeah, you've got to start somwhere ), akira, eden and short stories by hiroki endo, but having read all the available dragonball (see rolw), kenshin, angel sanctury, 3x3 eyes, fushigi yugi (shojo, ayayay ...) and ranma, i am sort of a "manga fan". especially the ones created for a more adult reader (not listed here, we do have younger children on these boards ) are intriguing in terms of drawing furiosity and storytelling, and are disturbingly gorey. the filmlike technique of sudden cuts or slow fades, brutal scenes and absolute idylle make mangas to a piece of art to me.

Citizen of a country with a racist, hypocritical majority
