Master Anoon Bondara Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 running obsidian to the gound... no! joining the industry Well me and a couple Friends are freshmen, and I have 3 questions... 1) what is the best way/things to have to become a succesful Writer/Director (writing the script, directing the game)? 2) What are the most important positions to have in a group to make a game, we are starting work on a game (no you can't sue us, because we are not selling it, and we are not publishing it, or anything that coudl give rise to a law suit upon us, nontheless, please, don't tell LA about it, as after this movie, lawsuits, will become a large portion of LA's income) that will be Republilc vs. Mandalorians no real title other than Goliath yet... what do you need without question? we have... ME- Script/Storyline Creator (too big of an imagination), Developer, and if need be, i can do cutscenes, and I know how to work sound like no other, I have done lights and sound on plays, can I put this expierence into Dev skills? I need to level this out. Phil- good god, he does Maya 7, and he will be creating the areas, he took the Halo trial, and modded it on his own to the point where it was like the first Diablo, just with light, in Blood Gulch, and it was a Blood Elf from Warcraft, killilng Zerg from starcraft. He makes the rough maps and Character images Manu- (AI dude)He grabs the other editor swoop, and chases Phil making the levels look nice, and runs our AI scripting August- (Editor) I had written an entire page of code in Notepad, terrible formating on my part, I couldn't find any errors, I ask, he searches my sheet for 3 seconds and finds 4 errors, proving 2 things- the further I am away from our engine, the better, and he could put enough spit and polish on a product, that it would flood mars to the point of it raining on earth because of it All of us are motivated, and have a great bonus, kinda like Kreia and the Exile with force Chain- the more one if us is motivated the more the others are (usually its me followed by silent Phil, then Manu doesn't shut up) I am working on getting a Arts Designer, but he needs crack to stay motivated, and backfires on the group, but otherwise, he has the most expierence of us he made $6k on a summer job, making a New Orleans magazine, still in publish. 3) If we are applying for jobs devloping, does it give us an edge that we have worked together before? How much difference does having a team that has worked togther before make? How much does the team meshing toghether matter? Is the difference small, miniscule, a bonus, a sizable help, or an inordinately oversizied gift from God, taking 4 Trucks strapped together to deliver? I am corny, I know, deal with it. Got any tips for keeping a team together? Thanks for the help in advance, and I would appreciate any help, and we would love to work for Obsidian consulting, troubleshooting, beta, whatever. thankx. The Great Phantom Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Heck, if OE is offering jobs as Beta Testers, then I'll gladly try to do it, too... In a few more years I'll try to get an internship somewhere as a Gameplay Programmer (when I finish my NWN module and get more practice), and hopefully I'll move up from there. Master Anoon Bondara Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 the game is RPG style, and Revan is in it, one thing- Revan is gonna drop the soap the shower, seriously, after what BioWare did, they garunteed a sequel would be made, and by over doing Revan's abilites, ensured its not living up to the first one to non-dev eyes, but this one adds crafting and upgrading, were this system to be addad to SWGalaxies, I would put my xbox controller down to manage my city, ain't been on in 5 days, so I am gonna get slammed when I get on... but! I digress... about what? Phantom- when I get out of college (taking an internet one now, should be done for winter break of my junior year in highschool) I will be hiring, and In my first four posts, all have run into you, and I would like to work with you. BTW, I agree, the force doesn't control people, my Mom does- you are so right, don't forget manipulation. The Great Phantom Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Ah, yes, the great manipulation of Kreia. I particularly like her ONLY truthful phrase throughout the WHOLE game... Hang on, lemme dig it out... In a rough paraphrase: "Ah, but at what time does the will of the Force and choice become each other?" That basically sums it all up: We don't have any friggin clue what we're doing, and neither does Kreia Geekified Star Wars Geek Heart of the Force, Arm of the Force "Only a Sith deals in absolutes!" -Obi-wan to Anakin (NOT advocating Grey-Jedidom) "The Force doesn't control people, Kreia controls people."
Master Anoon Bondara Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 nope you forgot one and not to much is skipped in the elipsis' (2 or 3 pages worth) "The force finds them... The force...brings... all life... And...My Darkness... Binds them." effective use of paraphrasing, no order change, just used words from telos through Malachor... The Great Phantom Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Lol... Mine was off of one line to Handmaiden... I can't remember the exact wording, but that's the idea... She asks when the Force and free will coincide, which is the same as asking when cake is considered home-made if it comes from a box: most people'd say yes, but it's technically not true... wow that made pretty much no sense.
