I'd rather Blizzard make a Warcraft or Diablo movie, actually.  Have you seen the latest cinematics for WoW?  Awesome bear and Dwarf.

Bear and dwarf or beer and dwarf?

Personally, of all the D&D series I would like to see turned into a movie...Dragonlance. Specifically the Chronicles (Dragons of Autumn Twilight/Winter Night/Spring Dawning). They would own (assuming they're done right and not made into a "Holy crap! Dragons!" type movie *coughD&Dcough*).

DnD should never have been made into a comedy movie. I have never seen the movie and never will. Its existance pisses me off. If they'd be serious about it and make a LoTR quality movie that is based on some DnD heros I would be all for it.

Yeah it was called Dungeones & Dragons the movie... and it sucked, the new producer for D&D the movie #2 is supposedly doing a better job

I didn't know there was a sequel in the works, I hope they run out of funds for it before it's completed. Ultimately the one reason these types of movies will always fail, is because their target audience is 7 year olds, whereas it _should_ be 20-40. The actors and creators of the first one, should be drawn and quartered.

Froste: from the sounds, the new producer is highly pissed off at what was done with the first movie and is treating the second as a whole new project... we will see I suppose

heh, Didn't he also hire Paris Hilton for the second one?

I think I read that somewhere ...

Good thing I've never seen it. Why on earth would they take a setting like the D&D genre and turn it in to a comedy?

Make an NWN movie USING the NWN toolset.

I've been waiting for some mod maker to make an 87 minute cutscene -- that is an NWN movie.

I suppose a 30 minute cutscene or shorter would be okay as a test.

I would love to see something like that. Point me to it if its been done.

While I agree with you, I think the main hurdle facing any DnD movie is the fact that it will probably be seen as a LOTR wannabe by people who are not DnD fans. Let's face it - Orcs, Elves, Dwarfs, Halflings etc., are fundamentally ripped from Tolkien's vision of such things, with Halflings taking the place of Hobbits, so they will inevitably be viewed in that context in a DnD movie. Which unfortunately gives it an 'also-ran' feel, in spite of all the 'original' content in the DnD universe.

Anyway, I rented the original DnD movie on video once - and I actually fell asleep about half an hour into it. Gripping stuff. :- They definitely need to get away from the DnD cartoon production mentality and focus on a more mature audience.

As for the suggestion to use NWN to make a 'long cutscene', you're talking about machinima - using game engines to tell stories. There have been quite a few well-made fan movies like this, so it would be intriguing to see someone develop something like that using the NWN engine. Of course, I think some custom animation wouldn't go amiss - because I couldn't handle watching the same looping animations that they used in the HotU cut scenes. I'd go mad. No...seriously. :o

I think the Death Gate Cycle series would make some good movies if done right... but hey you can say that for just about any fantasy series... Death Gate, Dragonlance, any of R. A. Salvatore's books, etc.

Hate to break it to ya; but it did poorly in theatres but made a pretty chunk of change on video. <>

"You first must have a fair plot."

Compared to 90%+ of fantasy movies; NWN's plot is downright Shakespearean.

get x items from x areas to progress to the next level? kill an ancient red dragon with a breadknife and a potion of barkskin? find a +4 greatsword in a beggar's dwelling?

hmm, i thought i'd read most of shakespeare's plays but i must've missed that one.

i was thinking more towards a NWN movie based on the original plot...and who would aribeth be?

i dunno. maybe the same edmonton-based community theatre actress they got to voice her in the original?

seriously, the only way an NWN movie would make money is if it was a porno. otherwise dogs wouldn't cross the street to watch it.

I rented the D&D DVD. It was horrible -- but, I watched it too the end.

Yet, as bad as it was, removing the silliness and a couple other easy mods would have made it okay -- not great -- but okay.

If Conan the Barbarian can be the basis for a fairly sucessful film franchise then I think that NWN might be able to do it with a few little pushes in the right direction.

I mean, Mario got a movie, and the plot in that was pure drivel. Didn't stop me watching it twice. And don't even get me started on Final Fantasy. WHY SQUARE WHY?!

yes, because NWN is equivalent to the seminal fantasy works of Robert E Howard.

hint: see if you can spot the sarcasm in this post.

grrr, me conan, me hit things, avenge mother!

vs

an actually relitively interesting plot about city politics and betrayal with the twisting of nature by delusion.

'seminal' doesn't mean it makes a good film like 'badly presented' doesn't mean it cant be improved in a more sutible medium.
