I have recently begun an umpteen playing of DeadFire. When I received the Family Feud quest, I went to Ezzali, asked if she wanted to negotiate, went to the Valeri, and got both of them to agree to terms, which completed the quest.  I did not question the fiddling son, pasha (?), the carousing ratouille (?), etc because I never received the Sinking Feeling quest. The only rewards I received were the weapons (Duskfall and Luxury); I never got the sails and hull upgrades.

Evidently, I was too hasty to use the term 'bug'. Yes, the weapons are the reward for Family Pride. However, once I completed that mission by immediately bringing the feud to an end, Sinking Feeling (with its hull and sails) was "dead in the water".

I felt and still feel the developers should have allowed the latter task to continue

I'm pretty sure that is indeed the intended behaviour. If the Bardatto's and Valera's are no longer feuding the events of those quests are unnecessary.
There are even endstates for both quests that remark upon this:

A Sinking Feeling = "With the feud resolved, Ezzali has no use for this information."

A Bigger Fish = "With the feud resolved, Martino's machinations are unnecessary."

I agree with @Kvellen, Family Pride is the final quest about the issues between these two VTC families; if you resolve it before other troubles, the other quests end since there is no point they should be still "alive".
