New Phone

OK, anyone here phones freak? My old Sony is dying before my eyes and I need replacement. And I totally don't know anything about phones. All I know I don't want apple. I like aluminum/metal body on phone and I love my 3.5jack on my phone. Any idea what is there out there which would be decent pick? + if its not chinese phone (I know its asking a lot). Thanks for anyone giving some tips

I mean if you don't want Chinese (brands?), then it's either Samsung, Google or Sony. What's your price range, what do you care about in your phone? You won't find an all aluminium body including the cover, it's either glass or plastic nowadays. As for the 3.5 jack you will find it on budget phones, Sony still has it on its high end phones.

I stand corrected this is the last phone to be made from Aluminium https://www.gsmarena.com/oneplus_nord_4-13200.php but it doesn't have the jack and is a Chinese brand.

I've gone Motorola the last few times because of price. Samsung doesn't have great value anymore IMHO, and I don't like the Pixel. 

I would also look at 6000mAh or better battery. Less stress about charging. Mine is a Moto G24 power. Its in the neighbourhood of 150 bucks. It's plastic, the battery is glued in (that's all you get these days) but it's got an audio jack and everything works just fine.

The downside with Motorola is software support. They are very bad with it, especially on the budget phones.

I haven't really noticed it. I get security updates every other month and I don't use any of their apps. The first thing I do when I get a new phone is pull up the apps list and uninstall everything it will let me uninstall.

I am happy to pay like 300-400 bucks, metal body, jack, 5G, 8GB+ ram, 128GB+ disk. I can live without jack or without metal body but not both. I am surprised how hard is to find some online comparator which would include body material

I would personally get a Samsung or a Pixel. But if the jack is a must have, then Sony is probably the way to go.

Surprised to hear that and did you get new android versions?

It's still on Android 14. Excepting flagship versions smart phones usually don't get full version upgrades. It doesn't matter though. When my phone reaches the end of its service life in 2, 3 years, whenever. I just get another, and get a fresh battery in the process.  It was only 150 after all.

That used to be true, now more and more manufacturers are doing it on budget phones too. It's why I was asking if you got new versions. Idk, I like the Pixels for the stock experience, but Samsung phones are definitely more polished. I get 3-4 years out of my phones at the minimum. We will see now with the extended support if it lasts longer.
