Even if some abilities say "on taking damage", they usually mean "on taking damage with attack rolls". Like Refreshing Defense doesn't add duration on DoT ticks.

I wonder if there are other cases where you actually want to use Gouging Strike or Lovers Embrace on yourself? I can only think of monks. A Nalpazca with several DoTs was pretty good when I played one.

I believe absolutely nothing interacts with DoT or any damages not applied through an attack (such as self damages). The only thing that takes them into account is Monk Wound counter.

I don't even know how I could mod it.

It should also be noted that some "on damaged" effect actually only take Hit and Crit into account. Not Graze. Iron Skin and Goldpact come to my mind.

EDIT: pretty sure mirror image works on damaged, buy Wizard's Double I have a doubt about it requiring an actual Hit (which would be a big plus).

iirc wizard's double requires an actual hit, but in practice this includes any and all things not just damaging effects (so like enemy chant auras). it's been a while since i tried to use it though, but i remember it being underwhelming in certain situations (with lots of ticking effects).

That's right. Wizard's Double doesn't get removed by grazes, but hits (and crits) from any attack roll (even ones that don't target deflection) will remove it.
