jaguars4ever Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I rather have nothing. Next game please. :D Yeah..."Non-Jedi of the Old Republic" B)
EnderAndrew Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Mass-murder, sex and blood catch people's eyes. Don't expect swoop racing to get turned into BMXXX, nor to have limbs flying. However, Obsidian could add pyschological torture, and manipulation to the game without raising the game to a mature rating. That's what I'm hoping for.
Dereth Posted May 26, 2004 Author Posted May 26, 2004 Basically what I'm saying is rather than simply killing everyone who doesn't agree with you when you could instead turn them to your side and use them for other purposes. Bastila said it herself, "What better weapon is there than to turn an enemy to your side?"
DarthShad Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Basically what I'm saying is rather than simply killing everyone who doesn't agree with you is pretty stupid when you could instead turn them to your side and use them for other purposes. Bastila said it herself, "What better weapon is there than to turn an enemy to your side?" Agreed. The thug approach was really lame. I would have preferred a more intelligent approach to the dark side. Take Palpatine, for example. He manipulated every single being in the OT in order to rise in power. He could be mercyful (as Chancellor Palpatine), when being so will let him come closer to his own twisted plans. Everyone was a tool to him, a means to an end. This is what I want to see. Put everyone against everyone. Create distrust, mislead the Galaxy into thinking you are it's savior, when in reality, you're it's conqueror. Now, that's evil.
EnderAndrew Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 To the dev's, I offer a small suggestion. Research the political climate of Florence during Machiavelli's time, especially the Da Medici family. Good stuff.
maia Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Actually, there were a few fairly believable evil situations in KOTOR that would fit my concept of intelliegent evil. Killing witnesses in Vulkar base made logical sense, for instance. And I do wish that one of them would indeed betray the party. Turning Mission against the Beks was quite evil, and supposedly for the reward (although in fact obliterating the Vulkars netted you more money and items). Forcing Zaalbar to accept Wookie slavery was quite evil, but unfortunately for no logical reason. Encouraging party NPCs dark tendencies was quite nice, but unfortunately it didn't lead to anything. The whole process on Manaan was very much "goal sanctifies the means" situation. And finally, on Korriban even with a good character I first wondered how badly she must behave to fit in. And the triple cross, of course. Mm... Basically what I want is "goals sanctifies the means" evil and "mercenary" evil. For instance that quest in PST where you could sell/kill your NPCs would have been great... except that the rewards were puny. I'd very much love to see something similar in KOTOR 2... except that the reward should be really useful and cool. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense and feels like evil for evil's sake.

Put everyone against everyone. Create distrust, mislead the Galaxy into thinking you are it's savior, when in reality, you're it's conqueror. Now, that's evil. Exactly! I remember when I first played KOTOR I wanted to be a DS Jedi. But at the same time, I didn't want to make enemies everywhere. Even though I was playing as a DS Jedi, I wanted to help people to help further my own gains, and that brought about a bunch of unwanted LS Points. In roleplaying, I had an evil reason for everything that I did that appeared good. The way I see it, if you keep attackign everyone who is in your way, you'll make a lot of enemies, and there will be a lot of opposition towards you when you are in a weak position. But if you pretend to be nice, help people out so that they will willingly follow you, out of devotion rather than fear, you can acheive your goals quicker and further manipulate them to your cause. Manipulation is fare more effective than down right fighting, because you add to your resources through manipulation, while fighting directly, you just detract from your resources. With all that, it was quite a chore to keep my Jedi on the Dark Side while still wanting to roleplay my character the way I wanted to.
