Ælfwine Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 Is it possible to do a complete circle around an enemy ship if you are fast enough? For example, My starboard side is facing the enemy port side. I want to reposition to his starboard side while keeping my starboard facing him. Is this possible?
shadow76 Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Just got into my first ship battle; devs you dropped the ball. I got no tutorial, and didn't understand what was happening until my ship had taken tons of damage. I really hope you intend to address this as I still don't know how to handle it. You shouldn't thrust someone into a game mode without explanation.
rjshae Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 The ship combat is too slow and requires an excess of mouse clicks. The logic of the ship's respective movement is completely squirrely; the only thing that matters is the range and facing. All in all it's a pretty tedious exercise. Too bad there isn't an AI option that will let you opt out of the click fest. "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."

Boeroer Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 (edited) It's a ton of clicking, that's true. But I got really good at timing the clicks so that I don't have to see all that textual infos I don't need (for too long). Fire the cannons ---> clickclickclickclickclick ---> Jibe ---> clickclickclick --> Full Sail ---> clickclickclick -----> Hold Position ----> clickCLICKCKLICK!!! and so on. Because of that I can almost click as fast as in my best Diablo II days (where clicking manually led to faster attacks than holding the button down). Those great design features - make your fingers work out! Pianists do envy us... Edited November 27, 2018 by Boeroer 2 Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods

This is basically what I end up doing. I just thought there had to be more depth to it. It's a matter of choosing your range, firing a salvo, jibe, wait, fire another salvo. Repeat. No real decisions to make.
Boeroer Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Well you should not stand still while reloading. Moving lowers the chance that the enemy will hit you. And before firing the cannons you should hold position to increase your accuracy. Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods

I was simplifying my explanation a bit to show that that's not much tactical skill required. 1
Boeroer Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 That's true, it's not. I asked the same question when the game came out by the way (I mean something like "why can't I steer a fast ship around a slower one?"). Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
