The condescending manager can be maneuvered to offer to sell me dust. And she sells it by the crate, because this is BIG BOY BUSINESS. She wants 1,500 copper for a crate. Unsure how many "units" of dust that would equal, but the problem is...

My character, normally a genius sporting 25+ int, decides that this price is OUTRAGEOUS. I am able to say as much or just refuse the deal. Whichever I do, the next time I ask the price is now 2,000 pires, which of course is even out-rage-ous-er to my freshly brain damaged Watcher. The price however doesn't get higher than that, but

I remain unable to freaking pay it.

There is no way to actually trade with her. I'd be super happy to pay 2k. Has anyone actually bought dust off her (or some other merchant)? If the design intent is that the price should be so steep no Watcher would pay it, I'll be happy to spell out the size of my fortune with the corpses of the mill workers after they opine on me stealing dust.

(I know this might have been better posted on the bug forum, but I'll first check here to see if someone knows a way to buy the dust.)

You can buy it from the VTC outpost on the island SW of Port Maje. I think availability is random, but it’s not super rare.

The crates of dust are a quest item for a quest you may or may not have run into yet.  The dust that is an ingredient is something totally different and not purchasable there.

I just checked and, yes, you can only buy the crates from the mill while you're on the Goods and Services quest, as the amount you need for the quest (which is variable) is given as a dialogue option.  I wasn't able to get the dialogue option to buy the stuff before quest was started or after it was completed.

I was able to buy the crates when I had Rep 3+ with the VTC, and I bypassed all of the haggling.  I don't think I have a savefile where I had a lower rep with the VTC and was able to get that quest.  I'll try to check it out with a lower rep when I get the chance.

I've done a bit more testing and I was able to buy the crates with VTC 3+ or passing a Bluff check of 9.  It's interesting on that bluff check of 9 though, as it's giving me one of the VTC 3+ responses (the Diplomacy 6/Clever one).

So I think her conversation tree is a bit bugged then, yes.  If I knew the checks needed to hit the 1500 gp per crate options, I could check that out as well.  As it is though, does appear to be some sort of bug on your end so might as well let Obsidian know about it.

For the record:

Path 1:

1. I need refined luminous adra.

1. Continue.

1. [VTC Good 3+] "I've done the Vallian Trading Company my share of favors.  It's time you do one for me.

2. Just mind your business and make the sale. ****OR ****   1. [Diplomacy 6] [Wink]"Surely I needn't spend it all, aimica." [Clever]

1. Continue.

1. "I'll take [X amount of crates]."

1. [Give X amount of copper] "Here you are."

The other path is:

1. I need refined luminous adra.

1. Continue.

2. [bluff 9] [Lie] "If my client likes what you've got, this won't be my last order."

2. Just mind your business and make the sale.

1. Continue.

1. "I'll take [X amount of crates]."

1. [Give X amount of copper] "Here you are."

After that, you can't ask her for more crates of the stuff.

Heyas, thanks for the replies.

I know about the quest. I generally don't do it because I don't want to support the criminals. However, I also know you can get these items from Vailian ships. Indeed, I have a number of crates of crude luminous adra from my piracy business, flagged as quest items and everything. Too, I can steal crates of crude luminous adra from the mill. Yet, as seen in the post above, I'm trying to haggle with Cortina for refined luminous adra.

To me, this meant dust. Are you saying I can buy something between crude adra and dust, halfway processed for greater convenience for Morena, or do I indeed just get the same crates of crude adra? 'cause I saw nowhere in the conversation that she would sell me the crude chunks, rather than the refined presumably-dust that I initially asked for.

@Achilles: Can't find the place. There's an island with a Vailian mill on it but they only sell basic food.

Second sentence :)

Yeah well, I thought it wasn't the right place or something. Business plan: Let's sell two very basic food items. And occasionally a super rare commodity. Gellarde!

I'll see if I can get some dust to pop up. ^^

Yep, there we have it. 305 copper each (50% discount). Woop.

Yeah, just a game discrepancy. The "refined" adra dust in the dialogue option is the same thing as the crates of crude and used only for that quest.
