Yes, detection is based on Perception now instead of Mechanics.

Ah **** =( Ahm, is there a pet what increases perception for 2 or an item? I found only one pet with +1.

Items and pets both have some perception bonus items. They also stack. I dont know where these are, but there are more than a few. There is a pet vendor in North West Serpent's Crown that probably has one. I am not home to check specifics atm unfortunately.

Just want to add that it would be better if detection checks relied either on Perception or Mechanics, taking the highest into account.

There's also a drug that gives quite a bit of perception, not sure how much at base alchemy but guessing around +3.
