  1. Excellent question, I've asked and let you know.

So whats the Word? Are modders going to be forced to struggle with modding TSL.

IF there is any hope that Obsidian will be allowed to help modders by LA. pease tell. Where are the Devs anyway? oh making games.

I just wanna mod. thier great work.

You are taking the words out of my mouth...err...keyboard... T7! :)

I am curious to know the answer although the mods here already started to lock threads about it...while subjects like this one survive longer: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=10235 <_<

  2. I'd like to take a stab at this one as well, as we've received posts, PM's and e-mail about this very issue, and I want to express that this of great concern to us.

Since the announcement two weeks ago, we've had a lot of new folks join our boards -- almost all with great intentions, but we've gained others who simply saw it as an opportunity to have fun at other's expense.  From these teething experiences, we've made a real effort internally to grow our web presence in conjunction with the growth of our forums and the community.

During this time, we've upgraded our forum servers, brought our moderator staff up to 11 with more coming soon, we've enabled inappropriate post reporting for all users, we've revised our forum guidelines with new enforcement policies, we're hiring an internal community manager, and we'll continue to grow our moderation team to meet and exceed the demand on the boards.

I just want to assure everyone that we are very serious and commited to making this a fun, mature place to talk about the games we are developing, and I hope that our efforts will become more apparent in the coming days.

I would also welcome any member to send a PM to me or our moderation staff if they'd like to learn more or are interested in helping.

We definitely want to see all of you here, and again, having a fun, mature forum community for all is our ultimate goal.

    Thanks,

    TG

Well I am glad to hear this because the Kotor discussion as it was not long ago scared a lot of "serious" potential participants and many I know just ran away. It seemed like every time a good discussion was initiated, it was soon swamped in an mass of pointless and immature comments which made things very annoying to read and impossible to follow. The few post I have made were "simplified" to fit the level of discussion. I was myself completely discouraged and simply renounced to post my opinions on various topics.

I think forums like this one should be a place where you can discuss the games intelligently and have fun in a manner respectful towards other users. Active moderators are definitely needed.

Thanks for taking care of the problem.

  3. This has been discussed various times in the past: :)

See these posts amonst others: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?sh...indpost&p=25967 and http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?sh...indpost&p=19954

About the format, we have this info: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=1564&hl=

For now, the tools we have are listed here

As tk102 once said, we are not even asking for a toolset, we can make our own tools. What would be nice, would be to have some documentation, even very informal. I don't have a problem with the devs not releasing a toolset: it is time and $$$ but some information, especially on the model format, would me more than welcomed by the modding community. There is no point is banning the whole discussion about mods like bioware did.

  4. I despise the X Box almost as much as I despise Easter Eggs.

As much as you despise not being able to play a non-jedi?

There is at least one thing that Hades One does not despise: posting on these forums...2 199 posts!

Just because there will be mods doesn't mean the fan mods alone will be worth picking up the PC version for.

I can't say I completely disagree with you concerning the contents. Since we didn't get a toolset, modding was made harder and there are still many limits. However, modding in itself and helping others with their mods is fun and certainly more rewarding and challenging than just playing the game.

  5. So, err... who turned into the krayt dragon?

No one...That was just a parody of another mod which was suppose to be the mod of the year but happened to be just an empty Star forge with a new name. I just decided to spawn a good guardian in there. In fact i never tried to fit that beast in the Ebon Hawk :p Why ? You thought it was Carth?

  6. The ERF/GFF/BIF/2DA/TLK formats are all the same, and save games are stored the same way, so I don't imagine it'd take too many changes to make your program work with KotOR2 when it comes out.

    -Akari

These are really good news for all of us

  7. One and the same.  Someone took Darth_Grandpa before me...atleast, that's what it said when I registered.

I've been backing away from the boards, in light of a few new projects I have going.  The biggest reason I'm here is because I'm waiting for the next KoTOR.

Today, I'm a little more active here, but only because I'm sick of web design at the moment.  (Redoing the intranet here at work)

Hmmm...you owe me some Carth reskins Grandpa :)

name: yeah I know Darth333 is a stupid name but it's anonymous too...doesn't say much

avatar: less anonymous than the name. there were not many female avatars where i started using this avatar and now it follows me (almost) everywhere...just like the name :p

  8. The point is That the developers don't have to waste time makeing user friendly tools. We can make do and have. All we ask is for a little help from the developers instead of haveing to struggle at reverse enginering the game just so we can make some mods to add content and life to a game we like.

    anyway...

I second that T7. Modding also adds to the lifespan of a game. Just look at NWN community...

And no, the fact that they aren't paid salary to do such things isn't why it's crappy. It's crappy because they don't do the right things. And regardless of if they have as much incentive to make things perfect, the quality is still not up to snuff with the professionals, REGARDLESS OF THE REASONS.

Mods are not necessarily always made with public release in mind. The modding activity in itself is part of the fun. In my opinion, modding is much more fun and stimulating than just playing the game.

  9. I think kOTOR was a great game! If there is to be a KOTOR 2 I think it should either be a prequel which would allow us to play with the same character (Revan's past is nearly a blank sheet) or a complete different story set many years later since the DS ending did not left much options.

A few things that could be improved :

    - Give a voice to the main character! (telepathy should not be an option!)

    - more "finesse" in dialogues and how DS and LS points are gained, especially DS. I think that an ex-Dark Lord such as Revan who was described by other NPCs as "charismatic and always able to inspire loyalty" should have other concerns than threatening some poor fools for extra-credits and commiting such other petty crimes! (I have to admit that I enjoyed twisting Matton's mind on Kashhyk ).

    - add the possibility to change the alignment of other Party members according to the dialogue options that are chosen. (would have been great to be able to turn Mission and Juhani to the DS)

    - replayability: perhaps have a mode that would unlock at the end of the game that would allow the player to complete quests.

    - as some people says, more possibilities to customize lightsabers but personally I think this adds very little to the game.
