That's how I feel about Shadows of Doubt. I played the demo a while back and saw great potential in the game. It's 20% off right now but it's still in EA so I'll hold off for now.

It solved itself for me, because it went off sale. No urgency anymore, I'll wait for the "release" version.

I suspect it's a good thing too, as the first game was one of those addictive just one ore turn before going to bed games 😝

So unless they completely messed up the second game, I expect it's going to be a time killer.

I recommend it. Been listening every day. Quite interesting.

This... it's not like he has 30 games to talk about, but dang, between his pre-Fallout games to Outer Worlds, the amount of information about life as a game designer and developer is something people could only dream of knowing 20 years ago.

You have that Triceratops figurine? Put your Lich on him if you want a mount. He's probably squishier than you are, but for some reason nobody ever targeted my Lich or his mount as if we were invisible, so won't hurt to try.

I just noticed my phone consistently replaced 'undead' with 'under' 😝

Hmm... I can't remember if my current party has the triceratops. I know my barbarian had it, but I'll check when I next play the game 👍

  4. I never really worked out what would've been the "optimal" minion for my Necromancer/Lick. I picked the tanky guy, as I assumed being squishy would be my biggest problem. It seems to repurpose the "mount" interface, except you can't actually put a saddle on your minion and ride on him. Could've been fun I suppose 🤔

Back to traversing the wound, solving side quests, while progressing the HoM&M mini game. This time a bit more optimal, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of generals (and also not getting too attached to any of the armies, as I know I may have to go recruiting again in the later part of the game). Hordes of zombies and skeletons are great damage sponges, but they are a pain to maintain in any way, as heal army spells damage them and vice versa. So, I started to just sacrifice them and not worry too much about them (sending them all to one giant blob army of zombies and skeletons in the middle of the map). Maybe they turn out useful at some point, even if just as  door stopper.

Still learning how to use summons (various under npcs) to fight for you in a combat, as there are quite a few options. Pre-summoning, raise fallen enemies, etc. Did have some success with a few under enemies that were very hard for my barbarian, simply being "charmed" to fight for me a turn every now and then.

Edit: I also have the corpse of the dwarf renegade whatshisname in the dungeon. Not sure he ages like fine wine, but I guess he will serve a purpose later...

Some details emerge about the unofficial US-Russia talks.

If the account is true then Russia is unclear on their objectives at this point.
Or they have no intention on unveiling them just yet.

Also an interesting view that Putin is the key stumbling block to any negotiated agreement.

“In fact, we emphasized that the U.S. needs, and will continue to need, a strong enough Russia to create stability along its periphery. The U.S. wants a Russia with strategic autonomy in order for the U.S. to advance diplomatic opportunities in Central Asia. We in the U.S. have to recognize that total victory in Europe could harm our interests in other areas of the world.

Tl;d;r the US wants to have cake and eat it. A Russia that can keep Islamist radicals in check in the its southern regions, without threatening NATO expansion in eastern Europe.

Edit: Not surprised at this point, that they have no clue how to define victory objectives, as I doubt they had a plan B once plan A failed miserably.

China does not directly import grain from Ukraine, but they are one of the largest (4th in 2021) grain importers in world and heavily depend on global grain market and Ukraine is one of the largest (5th in 2021) grain exporters in world (they export twice as much as China imports), so if when Ukraine's wheat is off the market, China's import bill increases lot and their reliance to USA (where they buy about half of their grain).

    Others disagree...

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/1333847/ukrainian-agricultural-exports-via-the-black-sea-by-country/

Not saying that they (China) get most of their grain from Ukraine, but it was one of the largest destinations for the grain that Ukraine exports/exported the last 12 months. Doesn't mean they are going to starve, but the reduced supply will affect the buying cost, probably snatching away supplies destined for third world countries by other grain suppliers (who can make more profit by selling to China). Most of Ukraine's grain were in the past sold to destinations like Spain and Taiwan, some middle eastern countries like Israel as well as Egypt (their only major African customer). But again, damaging the Ukrainian economy is not the only effect, it inflates the price for countries who can ill afford food in the first place, when first world countries buy them out of the market so to speak, as they can pay the higher prices.

This was likely a limitation of the Infinity Engine, but it used to drive me crazy when a cutscene would play and my party would just stand there frozen in place (well, their idle animations would play, but I couldn't move them) while Sarevok or whoever would walk onto the screen, give a lengthy speech, do something horrible, and walk off, all while my party are standing 40 yards away like idiots. Sometimes the devs would at least put something there that could conceivably block me from getting to the villain while they are doing villainous things, like a chasm, never mind that I could shoot arrows across a chasm, but at least it's something. However there were times where there was nothing in between me and the villain and my dumbass party just stood there and did nothing. They had enough time to where they could have made sandwiches, eaten said sandwiches, cleaned up after themselves, and still had plenty of time to intervene, but instead they just stood there like idiots. Anyway, please tell me that Larian did away with that in BG3.

Could also be a Bioware limitation. I can remember at least twice, where you beat the crap out of the villain and grind his face into the dirt with your boot on his neck, just for the game to decide that the villain somehow mysteriously won and you have no chance... after beating the living daylight out of him and hanging him out to dry. Malak in Kotor and Kaileng in ME3...` so despite overwhelming victories, the game takes control away from the player and creates a 180 degree opposite outcome of events.

  8. First observations, I see the country is named "Big Dog" 🙄

Gus Tarballs has retired... aww. Most of the old familiar faces seems to be there though. Looking to start a campaign over the weekend 😎

Heard there's a mod to enable forcing turn-based mode which is good progress, hopefully it becomes an official feature though. The biggest complaints I've heard so far are that and the stealth implementation in general.

Going to get the game tonight... first major patch or no. One of the things I liked about JA2 was the real time until engaged in combat. You could move your squads around a lot faster than if you had to start in turn based mode when entering the map. Curious to see how the pacing works here.

Nuke us when  Putin is arrested in SA .....surly not

Honestly I think our government is exaggerating or lying because the ANC lost a court case around all deliberations about enforcing the BRICS warrant and now all discussions have to be public record

I want to know  if anything is official about this in the Russian media or government comments , have the Russians actually said " we will declare war on SA if Putin is arrested "

Russia seems happy to accept "collateral damage" when it's convenient 😁

It would make life for the his successor a bit easier if Putin became a "glowing" example of Russian leadership (Fallout reference)

Edit: You may not have noticed, but the decision making process in Moscow isn't always rational by western standards

One thing JA3 does better than JA2 - The map is huge and complicated and feels like a real place. In both JA1 and JA2, you just kind of worked your way across the square map until you had it conquered. This map is a lot more dynamic. I just took over my 2nd mine and now I'm thinking about fielding a 2nd squad. Still broke though. Also Omryn is terrible and I think I'm letting him go at the end of his contract. I hired Nails because I needed a psycho for a quest, and he is a good back up bomb guy for Red.

Does JA3 have a "sci fi option" too? While a bit silly, it was quite fun exploring the mines in JA2 with it enabled. Probably no chance of seeing poor Elliot again. Loved the little sequences in the palace with the interactions between Deidranna and Elliot 😛

  12. I got myself brutally mauled to the point of reload because of my own silliness. That place where you loot a trivial object that spawns some angry wraiths (unless you put it back again)? Yeah, I forgot I had vendorized that for a few pennies and went back later to pursue another side quest on the same map. The welcoming committee was overjoyed to see me again... to the point where they wouldn't let me leave 😝

Need to prepare a bit better, go back and spank them for their effort.

  13. The only spiders I didn't like were the huntsmen, that sometimes visited my place, running over the living room floor, when I first moved to Brisbane. About 12cm-15cm leg span (4.5"-6" for the metrically challenged). The smaller Redback spiders hanging out in my shower cabin didn't bother me so much. Persistent little buggers though, every time I removed them, a new one would move in, at the exact same corner. Something about that particular spot just seems to make it look ideal for that particular breed...
