  1. Nice read, I don't think anyone was too surprised though. Great to have some clear facts, though you have to look a bit critical on his atricle too. Haha, that link was great R-P. :D
  2. I really hope what you're saying is true. But many japanese games at least, are already very story based. Is that a fact that women in general are more interested in stories in game, than men? It sure doesn't sound unbelievable, but I always thought of it as prejudice.
  3. Yeah, of course they can be found in every genre, just are less common imo. Second that with the porche.
  4. Agree with you a 100%. It's fun as you say, with extremes once in a while. But there's something in between that what I'm looking for. Though we are probably always going to demand more and more everytime we get what we want.
  5. I would just like to add at first, that I don't only isolate myself with CRPGs. If that would be the case, I would probably be playing 2 weeks per year maximum, because that's how often I'd get my hands on a decent CRPG. I have to agree with you on what you said about voice acting. It's been improving more and more. What I can't agree with you on is that for example Splinter Cell(Haven't played God of War) would have a well-developed story. Say if Splinter Cell would have been a movie instead? It would probably have ended up between some B action movies in my oppinion. No matter mostly what type of game it is, I think that if you have a story in a game, it should make you want to jump in there and try to help the characters out. You should feel involved. I felt most all the time I couldn't care less about what happened to that dude. It was just fun sneaking around in the dark and do the things he does. Just not my cup of tea storywise at least. It's interesting though, how everyone(?) expect more and more from how well written the characters are, to how developed the plot is in a game. It's not going as fast as the technology in a game seems to be moving, but at least it seems to move forward more and more, mostly thinking of FPS now. It's going to be interesting to see if it's been improved noticably in a few years.
  6. Do you have to float such asinine fanboy/anti-fanboyish statements? It degrades the forums. I would be surprised if this thread doesn't turn out idiotic because it was planted in such weak soil. Bleah. "Story" is such a nebulous concept I can't see how anyone could take the initial screed seriously. Are broad or sympathetic characters story? Is intricate plotting story? Is some kind of Joseph Cambell-ian allusion to elemental archetypes story? Is length story? Is scope story? Is relevance story? Is subtext story? I have no idea what you're talking about. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hahaha seriously, don't take it personally because you don't have the same opinion as me. I wasn't saying that this is the truth, I only said what I personally thought in a harsh way, because it's easier for me to express myself in that way in english.. and it's fun too sometimes. None anti-fanboyish statements I believe.. I enjoyed the game otherwise, just not the story itself, the storytelling and the boring characters. Yes, "Story" is a very nebulous concept, but I think that you're just playing real dumb, because you got angry over my previous statements. But if you didn't understand, as I stated perhaps all wouldn't, then let me try again, just for you. What I mean by story, is how well the characters in the game are written, how fun, interesting and intelligent the main and possible sub plots are, and how well that is put forth in the game. ------------------ Haha, I at least didn't take that talk about teenagers with money seriously.
  7. I'm intrigued by the notion that there could be a shifty reason for my not owning a 3d card. Any ideas? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Heh, well why won't you tell us? Tell me at least! :D
  8. Yeah, that may be true. But I guess it takes some practice to be able to implement the story in the game in a good way too. Which I certainly think both Bloodlines and Halflife 2 did nicely. Anyone else? I'm munching on some mushromms btw... I like my mushrooms lukewarm..
  9. I never expected you would.. as said in the "Story"-thread. Most gamers are ignorant, and blinded by graphics in games.. *hint hint* <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can't be blinded by graphics in games. My PC doesn't have a 3D card, for reasons I won't go into. Ever. I just worry about how much time it would suck up. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Aahh, then I forgive you. I'm quite interested though in why you won't tell us about the 3D card.. must be something embarrassing.
  10. Only read about half of the first part yet, but it seems as if I completely agree with him so far on his thoughts about the industry. This is really some interesting reading! And well, yeah.. As you guys have already said. It could possible also be too much story, and too little gaming. I wouldn't worry about that yet though. Not when it's completely the other way around. Perhaps it would be a waking call for some people?
  11. Of course Shooters and other games can be good too. I never said that all shooters *****, and I also pointed out that many rpgs are horrible. I've had my happy share of good strategy games, and shooters, but that's not really what's interesting here. Though it is a FACT that Sam Fisher in splinter cell is just as annoying as Jack Bauer with his all-knowing attitude. I will scourge everyone though, that doesn't agree with me.. So IF you were playing a game, just for "a quick fix", it must be Monkey Ball or Tetris.
  12. I never expected you would.. as said in the "Story"-thread. Most gamers are ignorant, and blinded by graphics in games.. *hint hint*
  13. Aahh.. wise choice, wise choice indeed.. I did grow up on Leisure Suit Larry and I have to say, I turned out kinda alright.
  14. Meh! A good MUD is nothing of the kind(refering to those textbased games)! If you find a nice server, you should see that it's way.. way more roleplaying on them than any selling MMORPG. Talking from personal experience.. some of my best gaming moments are from MUDs
  15. As long as they could take an active role in ther gaming life, I'd be happy. Showing them what games are good and what games are not.. shooters.. - No no little Ryan, don't touch that. You can have this instead! Jade Empire, that's the ticket for young boys like you!
  16. I know only of one remedy for it... ANNIHILIATE all the rich teenagers under the age of 18 in our countries!
  17. Oohh, that's.. great? I would be more interested though if they were.. GUESS WHAT!? Actually making a completely new game, and not a follow-up! I know, it's such a weird thought! Sorry, I'll try and make it go away. Silly me sometimes.. :">
  18. A summarize then.. Most gamers are boring and ignorant.
  19. Haha, great examples of a romance in a game Walsingham, just great.
  20. Through the last years, the gaming market has been flooded with crappy shooters, and hack&slash, or "RPGs"(as they like to call it ). One lucky star of these developers though, has been rising continously(Bioware) but recently(ehrm..sort of, sounded good) joining the darkside with Xbox and family. Another developer, that I had so high expectations on(Troika) died. There really aren't many games today that tries to tell us some sort of story(have there ever been? Apart from all those japanese games..), and most that tries, fails completely. Morrowind tried, but both the story, and the way they put it forth, sucked so much ass it doesn't even deserve to be called a rpg! So why aren't there more developers that are trying to create their own story? More games that are heavily dependant on the story in the game. Why aren't they trying to copy the achievements of successful companies like Bioware? Can't they see many are not satisfied with what are available today? Is it that difficult to make a game with some sort of intresting story, or are they just not interested? Don't come and tell me now that games like Splinter Cell with the dude named Sam Fisher, has a nice and interesting story. Or that maniac named Solid Snake or whatever for that matter, because it too ****** as much ass as the tv-series 24! So why do you think the story in most games are almost non-existant? And why are hack&slash games still selling? I mean, it's always the same, just new looks. I guess one reason is, the world is populated by new teenagers every second.. Damnit! I know there's something I forgot to complain about... no matter.. This post is absolutely completely incoherent and indistinct, but some of you will probably get through it.
  21. Hrm... yeah, well, of all the quotes, only the last one seemed kinda interesting. Man, that guy is all about graphics, no wonder I haven't been interested in a EA game since Fifa98! :D I'm interested though, in how well the developers will manage to handle the multi-threaded processors. Sure, no doubt the graphics will look astounding and all, but within a month of playing those new games, you'll already be used to it. It will be fun to see what they will make of the new power for physics. Certainly there will be several new gameplays created.
  22. Man... and some seem to wonder why Bioware is so successful. Hardly no one else is even trying to create a decent rpg.. And finally when they return to the Shadowrun world again, it's only for some stupid fps. Why won't people ever get tired of these kind of games? Oohh well, at least it's cyberpunk, that's postive, I think.
  23. I'm not really sure to what chapter you're refering to now, but several weeks for just a sec? Naaah, it's sounds a bit silly. Could you try to tell me where it is in the game, so I might check it out?
  24. Aahh, yeah. Sounds like my cup of tea. I always try to take the diplomatic way. It's so great with games that you can talk your way out of most trouble. That's my personal opinion anyway, and that was also something that BG pretty much lacked(suddenly off topic), if I'm remembering correctly. As much talking as possible. That's why games like Divine Divinity and such, or whatever it's name was from the german producer, never gets my attention at all.. I can't believe how someone can call Diablo clones a RPG btw(I know, it's been discussed so many times before.. hope I won't get that discussion started again..). And absolutely not Diablo itself. Just have to add, what's all the fuzz about the Bastilla romance anyway? I hardly noticed it through my runs with K1. It should at least be a bit more spicy!
  25. Haha, seriously. You say that all MMORPGs should be like Guild Wars, and you haven't even played it yet! :D I wouldn't personally count Guild Wars as a true MMOG though, because the world isn't really connected. It's more like small private hubs, and a big one were all the players can meet up and talk as far as I've understood it. All MMOs that I've tried have been really boring.. so I'm probably not even going to look at one in a long time.
