  1. speaking of suicide bombers (ill assume we still are - i didn't bother to check the last 10 pgs are so) - i would just like to announce that i find them as irritating in real life as they are in games. they are cheap and overpowered. why can't they fight like decent godfearing humans and use guns, grenades etc as god intended.

i remember when playing myth i used to prioritize the targetting of all selfexploding zombie critters (they may have been wights). terrorists should also walk in a shambling fashion and moan hideously to even things up.

  2. these are the settings id like to see:

a transformers rpg where... ive got no idea if this goes anywhere, i was just looking at oerwhindes avatar. but transformers are undeniably cool.

a dune rpg. for some reason i like the whole notion of wars between ultra-powerful families as in dune or in some fantasy books which had drow families. plus i guess nostalgia from dune2 influenced me perhaps.

neither of these are original ip though so for original ip... hmm....

some form of dark noirish setting would be good.

  3. i dont get the obsession with sabres. its just a tool of destruction aint it? use the force i say.. or some other form of psychic, mystical powers. i think this game should include mythical talking beasts with strange and wonderful mental powers.

anyway id like to see npc quests tie in with the plot/sidequests more so as they seem less mechanical. and also at the risk of being labelled a tool id like npc interaction in addition to the npc quests. simliar to planescape of course. in that you have a bunch of dialogue/questions that you can have with your npcs which may not actually achieve anything concrete other than get you information on their opinions (with regard to characters/locations/situations/ideas) and give you more of a feel of their personality. these options would be permanent options that you could talk about so that you never click on an npc and get an empty dialogue tree. new permanent options could be added as you visit new areas/characters.

hopefully all of this will be in the end product. if not i'll just have to indulge in killing some vanilla villager types to sate my rage.

  4. well whenever discussing villains i just have to say all the baddies in the princess bride are the greatest.

count rugen is very chilling and impassive. i love the bit where he's indulging in a spot of torture and calmly and curiously questions his subjects how he's feeling.

vizzini is ridiculously conceited and amusing if only because of his short stature. i guess his appeal is somewhat similar to the shrek baddie. (cant remember his name off-hand)

prince humperdinck is a self-important lout who turns out to be a coward in the end. id like some more cowardly devious villains in that vein.

just started reading the book. and it seems as great as the movie.

  5. hungry,

May be you have missunderstood me. What I mean is that education is the least important factor - someone from MIT may be much worse programmer than a person who is self educated! (MIT, sorry for the example :p )

What you say is in fact continuation of my thought: of course nothing will happen without ambition/will. I assume these are present by default :p

ah ok. i forgive you then.

in that case im not sure if i agree or disagree. i don't really know many self-educated programmers anyhow. but i assume they would educate themselves by reading books which is not to dissimilar to a university education for some.

  6. nik_bg what you say is utter rubbish!! personally i think intelligence is overrated. hardwork, perseverence, passion, enthusiasm and the like are much more important qualities. ive known many of talented people held back by apathy/laziness/lack of ambition/confidence etc. (i guess ill include myself in that).

  7. I like the idea that you get different options after completing quests and points in the plot. But I think I also like the idea that the npc's quests are at random. It means that if you want that person's question you have to use that person and diversify your experience. As supposed to going through the whole game with three jedi and then complaining about it being too easy.

    -Samori

i kind of prefer to stick with a small party rather than chop & change all the time. that way i feel less like im just using them and then discarding them. it feels more like a 'party'/'group' rather than me + a bunch of hired hacks who i switch between on a whim or to get experience/items from their quests. for this reason i hope we dont have a special ship that stores all npcs allowing you instaswap. it damages immersion for me.

  8. make it structured more like planescape & less like the bioware model.

ie. the npc 'quests' in recent bioware games have seemed very artificial to me.

The quest starts with some dialogue option and then periodically every x minutes of gametime you get to clickclickclick through the next segment of played out story. also apart from the quests the amount of interaction you could have with your npcs was fairly minor.

Id prefer if npc interaction was more triggered off in game events and happenings. As in new available dialogue options with your npcs open up after you do a quest a certain way or you get to a certain place in the plot. and if there are special npc quests somehow make them not so blatantly obvious that its a listen to an npcs lifestory to get the phat reward situation. i dunno maybe just more subtle somehow.

  9. hmmm im unconvinced about the merits of a farming game. unless you have rampaging cattle rustlers, rednecks, and fox/wolves/hungry angry creatures that you have to apprehend with your shotgun and sheep dog.

though i guess "the horde" was a farming game of sorts and that game ruled. so work some combat in or im not playing.

  10. Ive only really used Java & C++ although I guess I learned the rudimentaries of some other languages at uni. I also harbour secret ambitions of breaking into game development industry - although it seems like nearly every non-game programmer has this dream and then its just whoever is talented/determined/lucky enough. The main concern I have is that I hear that the hours for game devs are insane and i've already had/have various overuse injuries.

  11. actually you can find out a bit on the internet. there's a lot of good online health stuff. also you'd be surprised how useless some gps can be. but i wasn't really seeking advice. just wanted to whinge and get that off my chest. i probably will still see a doc at some stage. and also probably have to give up frisbee for quite a while.

  12. i think i have osteitis pubis.

since the start of the year ive been getting a sore groin after playing sport. then ill rest it aawhile and it starts feeling better. but eventually it starts hurting again. just recently i was a numbhead and played whilst it was still hurting and now it hurts when i sit down, lie on my side or generally do anything. and this is on top of the tendinitis ive had/have in my arm and shoulder and my weak ankles.

    waah im falling to pieces.
