I imagine it's in the same manner that your average computer programmer knows lots about maths, computers and networks like the back of his hand: he likes what he does, and/or he did a degree in it or worked in that field for many years. If I'm not mistaken Enoch is a public servant, so he'd be dealing with things like tax, law, politics, foreign relations, economics on a daily basis and these are also likely areas that interest him in his idle time. Not to belittle his intelligence, just that he is probably very active in the areas he draws his knowledge from. Certainly I'm no expert and I am aware of that, but AUD has been an especially cyclical currency with predictable movements in the 36 years since it was first floated: http://www.rba.gov.au/marketoperations/int...a_role_fxm.html Hovering around an average of 0.6 to 0.7 USD over that 36 year period, it's current highs (and predicted record-breaking future highs over the next year) against the Euro, Pound, Yen, and USD are extreme anomalies. The chance of the AUD staying above parity permanently with the USD for example is so minimal to economists at the moment (in fact none of them have even suggested it is possible) that I think buying one of the majors when the AUD begins to fall from its high poses an acceptable risk. You probably think that's ****y. So does my mum. I was thinking of playing around with $5K to $10K or so, get a feel for things like currency markets, and then maybe going higher if I don't mess up. Even then, I only plan to do that over the next 1 or 2 years, and then invest in long-term, lower-risk things like bluechip shares on the ASX or such. Does fund manager = financial adviser? Tax adviser as in accountant? I need to discuss my income tax with one anyway for various reasons so all the better. If not an accountant, where would I find a tax adviser? Oh, there has been many of those. The Federal Government supports an R18+ classification, but since such a move would require the consent of the Attorney Generals of each state (Australia is a federation of six originally independent colonies), and one unelected government bureaucrat keeps vetoing it, we'll have to wait till he resigns or dies.

I've decided not to buy Left 4 Dead 2 because it's censored in Australia. Shame.

What the players think they want is not always what actually makes the game fun. Some things, like respeccing, might make the game more fun the first few times at the expense playthroughs later on.

The lack of respeccing is part of the reason people played Diablo 2 for so long, so many times, as were the multiple difficulty levels. I have a hard time believing Borderlands can come close to matching that.

Lulz. This is not true - often Valve games are discounted in shops long before Steam lowers the prices. Anecdotally, that's not true. Steam has always been cheaper for me, even before considering exchange rate issues.

O RLY? Steam is a horrible system compared to having a retail copy - even a retail copy with DRM. It's the opposite. If you're going to have ****ty DRM it may as well be a reliable Steam game. I refuse to buy any game with Securom activations. And for any Valve game, Steam is the superior option, because it costs less, and the retail versions all run through Steam anyway. I'm very wary about buying a non-Valve game on Steam though.

And to block out the names of certain politicians, like **** Cheney. Its really annoying, I dont understand why youd need a fucntion like that. Especially since it removes words that are not curse words like vagina or **** ( p e n i s ) edit: so the male gential organ is offensive but the female isnt?!! That one's not about offensiveness, it's about spam. (Hint: When is the last time you saw a message board spambot try to sell you vagina enlargement?) I doubt it. Blocking the world doesn't block the spam.

Guys, if I buy Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam instead of physical stores, will it be the censored Australian version or the real version which the rest of the world gets? I could imagine that if you introduced a limit, people would pay less overall.. As a reaction if you will, to an arbitrary limit. I think that would actually backfire, but that's an assumption, I have nothing to base it on. Make it a hidden limit that you were only alerted to if you tried to go below it, perhaps.

Actually, Australia's currency cycles are extremely predictable since our dollar follows the direction of commodities, especially gold and oil. Although this recession has shone a global light on Australia's financial stability (especially in contrast with America and Britain's lack of the same), so the AUD might never be as volatile as it used to be. But it will certainly still fall against the majors again in (probably in 1.5 years).

No, it wasn't. It was a poorly disguised attempt at pretending to ask an innocuous question, luring someone in to try to convince you how good this game looks so you can start raving about how bad it will be, how it will be Borderlands in name only, how stupid people are for not replaying Planescape: Torment for the billionth time instead, how you just don't get how people can like Diablo-ish games because they are so beneath you (and throw in whining about achievements while you're at it) and being the angry internet nerd that you want to be. To be fair, achievements are ****. How would you pay me if I gave you a $33 copy from a four-pack, though? I'm not too savvy with internet purchases or internet banking. Based on current exchange rates it'd be about 230 Swedish kronor.

Based on what Rorie said, it also allows for a very complex mix of ideas and ideologies to manifest themselves in the game, as he specifically mentioned "loyalty to a cause". Hopefully the game's treatment of such social commentary is as deep as Torment's treatment of certain aspects of philosophy. So it's unlikely the game will be a black and white lovefest like Bioware's games are.

That was... surprisingly insightful. Though I'd certainly argue that the human race is, on the whole, far more constructive and progressive than it is violent and sadistic. Progress will win out in time.
