  1. Just for the record: that's a pretty inaccurate portrayal of ADHD. Not that you guys care, I suppose. It's always fun to laugh at people with disabilities or disorders, right?
  2. I just bought a 4-pack with 3 mates. Another mate is buying a 4-pack and needs some more people. You might be in luck mkreku. If there's a spare copy to gift, I'll buy it and you can Paypal me for it.
  3. Exactly. Working for others gives me a strong emotional investment, and that always motivates me well. If we did that I would always get the job done on time, and I'd do it well. For example, at work, I'm the most responsible and hard-working person in the team, and my boss has said as much quite a few times. *sigh*
  4. I do and I reckon I'm clever. And stupid at the same time. I've done pretty well in life so far so I have no major complaints. I've messed up two university degrees now but I'm still on $50,000 a year in relaxed job I enjoy doing with excellent advancement prospects. I've got decent friends, good family, and I have no stress. And I can probably salvage my second degree if I halve my work-load, do only maths subjects for a while, and get a string of high distinctions in a row. And don't drink when assignments are due. The worst thing about my uni degrees is I do poorly because I'm just plain lazy, yet I often help my top classmates with their assignments. It's self-sabotage to an extreme level. If I don't complete this degree, I don't care too much. I'll save up ****loads then travel the world a bit (South America is in mind) and then whatever.
  5. Nukes don't work against terrorists. But terrorists work best with nukes. It's a problem. It's why we need to stop them. If the Taliban and the Qeada infiltrate the Pakistan military's top levels, it's game over for us.

A quick read of this thread suggests we actually do, but it's all in accountant speak. Am I correct? http://au.messages.yahoo.com/finance/finan...ocktalk/114401/ Also: http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content....ntent/36586.htm
  7. You can even backup steam games to disc(s) very easily, eliminating the need to redownload them. You still need to activate those backups on Steam if you ever want to use them. That's the only thing about Steam that bothers me.

I imagine it's in the same manner that your average computer programmer knows lots about maths, computers and networks like the back of his hand: he likes what he does, and/or he did a degree in it or worked in that field for many years. If I'm not mistaken Enoch is a public servant, so he'd be dealing with things like tax, law, politics, foreign relations, economics on a daily basis and these are also likely areas that interest him in his idle time. Not to belittle his intelligence, just that he is probably very active in the areas he draws his knowledge from. Not to belittle your intelligence but you're wrong, there must be a logical explanation behind this. My theories are some sort of magic and/or tomfoolery, in which case we are all ****** because a monkey's paw revenge is like the scorn of a wild mountain cat that has tasted flesh and comes upon you in the night while your in your sleeping bag, asleep, defenseless, and likely with an erection. I guess that would make more sense. Cheers bud, I'll see if there's a similar law here in Oz!

Certainly I'm no expert and I am aware of that, but AUD has been an especially cyclical currency with predictable movements in the 36 years since it was first floated: http://www.rba.gov.au/marketoperations/int...a_role_fxm.html Hovering around an average of 0.6 to 0.7 USD over that 36 year period, it's current highs (and predicted record-breaking future highs over the next year) against the Euro, Pound, Yen, and USD are extreme anomalies. The chance of the AUD staying above parity permanently with the USD for example is so minimal to economists at the moment (in fact none of them have even suggested it is possible) that I think buying one of the majors when the AUD begins to fall from its high poses an acceptable risk. You probably think that's ****y. So does my mum. I was thinking of playing around with $5K to $10K or so, get a feel for things like currency markets, and then maybe going higher if I don't mess up. Even then, I only plan to do that over the next 1 or 2 years, and then invest in long-term, lower-risk things like bluechip shares on the ASX or such. Does fund manager = financial adviser? Tax adviser as in accountant? I need to discuss my income tax with one anyway for various reasons so all the better. If not an accountant, where would I find a tax adviser? Anyway, cheers for your intelligent replies Guard Dog, Hiro and Enoch. Plenty to think about. I've booked with a financial adviser for next Friday (first hit is free).
  11. Oh, there has been many of those. The Federal Government supports an R18+ classification, but since such a move would require the consent of the Attorney Generals of each state (Australia is a federation of six originally independent colonies), and one unelected government bureaucrat keeps vetoing it, we'll have to wait till he resigns or dies.
  12. I've decided not to buy Left 4 Dead 2 because it's censored in Australia. Shame.
  13. What the players think they want is not always what actually makes the game fun. Some things, like respeccing, might make the game more fun the first few times at the expense playthroughs later on.
  14. The lack of respeccing is part of the reason people played Diablo 2 for so long, so many times, as were the multiple difficulty levels. I have a hard time believing Borderlands can come close to matching that.
  15. Lulz. This is not true - often Valve games are discounted in shops long before Steam lowers the prices. Anecdotally, that's not true. Steam has always been cheaper for me, even before considering exchange rate issues.
  16. Does Borderlands have multiple difficulty levels that you can take your character through, like Diablo does? That would extend the life of the game. "Thankfully respeccing in "Borderlands" is as easy as spending the cash" LAME
  17. O RLY? Steam is a horrible system compared to having a retail copy - even a retail copy with DRM. It's the opposite. If you're going to have ****ty DRM it may as well be a reliable Steam game. I refuse to buy any game with Securom activations. And for any Valve game, Steam is the superior option, because it costs less, and the retail versions all run through Steam anyway. I'm very wary about buying a non-Valve game on Steam though.
  18. And to block out the names of certain politicians, like **** Cheney. Its really annoying, I dont understand why youd need a fucntion like that. Especially since it removes words that are not curse words like vagina or **** ( p e n i s ) edit: so the male gential organ is offensive but the female isnt?!! That one's not about offensiveness, it's about spam. (Hint: When is the last time you saw a message board spambot try to sell you vagina enlargement?) I doubt it. Blocking the world doesn't block the spam.
  19. Guys, if I buy Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam instead of physical stores, will it be the censored Australian version or the real version which the rest of the world gets? That single ****ing Attorney General blocking the creation of an R18+ classification category for computer games means L4D2 gets refused classification here. God damn.
  20. Circumventing taxes? I'm just giving him a computer game as a gift because he's such a dear friend, and he's donating to my education because he wants to see me be successful in life.
  21. I could imagine that if you introduced a limit, people would pay less overall.. As a reaction if you will, to an arbitrary limit. I think that would actually backfire, but that's an assumption, I have nothing to base it on. Make it a hidden limit that you were only alerted to if you tried to go below it, perhaps.
  22. Yeah, it's idiotic, but the mods seem to think the boards will devolve into 4chan without it.
  23. The United Nations peacekeeping effort in Afghanistan has had an adverse affect on neighbouring Pakistan as the Taliban seek refuge in its unruly tribal areas. With the Taliban and the Pakistani military actively at war over the country, let's hope it doesn't devolve into the horrid situation we have in Somalia and Afghanistan. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...a-war-zone.html

Actually, Australia's currency cycles are extremely predictable since our dollar follows the direction of commodities, especially gold and oil. Although this recession has shone a global light on Australia's financial stability (especially in contrast with America and Britain's lack of the same), so the AUD might never be as volatile as it used to be. But it will certainly still fall against the majors again in (probably in 1.5 years).
