  1. I'll wait for a little while, Sistergoldring, as I don't want to add to the pile he's already graciously taken on for the Order. Once things have settled a bit and he can breathe, we'll see what is what. I know it gets super hectic at the end of things like this and, from what I saw in the earlier posts, he kind of got thrown into it. (That and I dislike being pushy/intrusive/and-am-actually-kind-of-shy.)
  2. If you've got some special circumstances like you tried to pay up earlier or something went wrong for you I'd suggest having a quick word with Farudan to see if you can be admitted. Might take a little time to get a response cause poor Farudan's doing all the work here but that's what I'd suggest. Hope it works out for you. It was my own mistake, because I had never done a kick-starter before. I didn't get an answer to how OO expected the donations(I doubled my amount but didn't know I could do so without changing tiers) and put in the $8 through PP when I finally got an answer here, though it was officially after the KS closed. So, either way, Obsidian got the donations and the game was enhanced by it. Forum tag or no. ^^'
  3. Actually, it was because Veeno and I wanted clarification because it mattered to us. XD But I agree, it isn't really up to us in the first place and it isn't really something to talk about further at all. So instead I shall dance around happily to my friends that I was part of the third largest kickstarters to date and will be getting my hands on an awesome game once Obsidian is ready to release it. /dancedance
  4. Jarpie: I would not argue that some who prefer a particular game have expressed a desire for this game to take a similar route. They're allowed to and this thread is there to let them express that. Just as both you and I are allowed to express our desire in that area and why. And I, too, trust that Obsidian will handle it well in whatever way the writers are comfortable with. They don't have to answer to a AAA publisher/tyrant-company with artificial deadlines and forced milestones that pushes them to pander. As someone who is a voracious reader, I know that the rise and fall of emotions in characters is important to both drawing readers in and making them care about what will happen. This is an old school game, not a 'play along movie'... so I expect the writing to be far and away better... which means that I also can see where romance and rivalry can be done well. We all will wait and see what they do. And, like you, I trust them to do it well.
  5. HAha, oh pish-posh. I've been a forum moderate in my time and have played MMOs, among other things, for years. That doesn't even really count as 'trolling' to me as just 'some kid being rude'. But thank you. :3 All in all, I have really enjoyed a lot of the conversations and comments I've seen on these forums. (Well, not all of them, but the moderators have been pretty good about removing the 'bomb-throwing' comments.)
  6. I agree, Tale, but the point I was making was that saying 'I don't want them to do romance because it will take away from what I want' is a 'selfish' statement because you are stating that you want to ignore what people want completely, not considering a balance, because you feel what you want is more important/better. I wasn't saying 'you are selfish and a bad person and you should feel bad!' I stated 'that argument can be considered a 'selfish' type of claim for why you don't want a particular resource'. jarpie: You stated that the 'romance-crowd' as a generalization to everyone who has commented that they would like to see some form of romance at all. Now it is 'a lot of people'... and then it goes to 'some'. If you say 'Some of those wanting romances want to take a bioware style on it, and I don't like that' then it would be fine. But you can't just paint everyone with the same brush and expect those who are not on that particular band-wagon not to go 'hey, wait a second...'
  7. That's sticking a whole lot of words in a whole lot of people's mouths that have not, actually, been said. Just FYI.
  8. That's an argument of 'what I like/want is more important than what they want' type of argument... and is, basically, a selfish type of claim. What you want is perfectly valid... but so is someone who wants a well-written(and I stress that, people... and have in every post I've made tyvm) interaction with companions that can include romance and rivalry. We are trusting the writers to know their characters well enough to be able to write a good story, be that with or without rivalry and romance. That people would like to have that option does not make it inherently wrong, or that they want to dumb down any other part of the game, either. Because we're not doing VO, motion-capture, movie-esque cut scenes but depending on the simple writing... it isn't NEARLY as much 'taking time from what *I* want' as people seem to think it will be, either.
  9. Uh-oh. XD Actually, they were equally rude to Veeno. (I did not totally just sound like a 5-year old tattling to the teacher... right? Good... /cough )
  10. Even ignoring the romance aspect, I weep DAILY over the lack of smooth, intelligent, reasonable lawful evil-esque options in games! It's either "Save everyone! I'm a good guy!" or "Kick puppies and burn down orphanages! I'm evil just to be EVIL!"..... where are the lawful evil options, maaaaaaaaaaan? (Says the girl who plays the only evil character at her D&D group, who started out lawful evil and got pushed into neutral evil by said party...) My comment in the previous thread about the 'choice' being more like a 'choose your own adventure' situation and promoting the 'flag-tree type' of conversations with companions never really did get commented on. Ah well. /SHRUG Ieo, you're still my favorite person to have chatted with in this(er.. that) thread for our very nice chat on page 11.
  11. Indeed. Which is exactly why we shouldn't go around laughing at each other's faces for something which we were all supposed to do to get in. Haha, hey, no argument from me on that. Remember, I was right there with you in the 'being laughed at' department.
  12. I understand that position... given that I've been mocked in the previous comments for my worry about being honest to what the OO founders created the group for in the first place. I'm just saying that it isn't our place to say he should get the boot unless the founds/people-running-the-group have a code-of-conduct rule set that they asked members be a part of. (Which I'm all for, actually, when a group is established as it lets people know the expected social boundaries to respect towards each other.) Veeno: I don't know and... neither do you. Has anyone? The burden of an honor system is exactly that. PS: Thanks, Grand Einherjar. But as I said, I won't cry into my pillow either way. I know I followed the 'spirit' of the effort and will enjoy my copy of the game regardless.
  13. Well, Veeno, that's the problem... it's an assumption to say he did or didn't. That he's mocking people now is besides the point. He did donate to the game, which is the bigger position, and if he says he donated in the way the OO was founded to encourage, it isn't really our business to claim otherwise without proof. /shrug
  14. Ah, here's a question for you then: If any kind of change in relationship(romance or otherwise) happened because the NPC was reacting to flags tripped by the PC's decisions earlier... they're not writing for a 'blank slate'... they're writing for the character the writers created when writing up those dialogue paths. (This is going with the 'flag-reacting dialogue trees and not a meter which is, I agree, much more minigame-esque.) The writers have created dynamic PCs when they create the dialogue choices we are given and worked into the various trees... it's choice in as much as a 'choose your own adventure' book is choice. This isn't people sitting around a table where the GM can react organically to what players are doing... it's a pre-determined outcome depending on what 'page' you flip to. Thus writing in romances doesn't come off to me as terribly hard if you have a good solid writer who has created and knows, in-depth, their characters. /shrug
  15. Ah, okay. See, that I'm used to. Carry on then, I'm experienced in ignoring people who mock me. ^^
  16. Well no huge surprise but I kind of agree with him. Only that I'd actually love someone to make me a medieval combat simulation, where every wound would be terrifying! Gangrene, amputations and all the lovelies. And I wouldn't mind finding a good crpg with some nice harem anime thrown in. Probably wouldn't make a great game with the two combined, but it'd be an interesting one for sure. That's... a hilarious and horrifying idea all rolled together! D: ......now I kinda want to see how it would turn out, too. o_0 It's like a car-wreck that you just can't stop looking at as you go by... /shudder
  17. Pray tell, how is it stupid? Because someone is honest, and worried about being honest, about something so small? Or because someone wants to stay true to the intent behind a fun project? I don't really get the comment/intended insult/whatever...
  18. Agreed, Veeno. I wanted to join, but I mixed up the donation system having never done it before... I asked for clarity to be sure, because I'm an annoyingly honest person(sometimes gets me in trouble... okay OFTEN gets me in trouble, but eh) and flat out stated 'Oh, that's now what I did, but I'll go paypal it now just to make it up!'. Because it's late, I don't know if I'll be allowed in, but I'd rather sit back knowing I was honest and didn't lie than have my 'Dragon Lady of the Obsidian Order' tag. If I lied, I'd have to live with that little nagging thorn when I tried to sleep at night, I'd only see the mis-gotten tag when I'm on the forum. I think... stressing that the whole point of the order was to give people a fun reason to donate just a little bit more to a great project is important.
  19. But it's not fair, I was supposed to add 8$ to get into the Order and I didn't while everyone else in the Order did. I can't figure out how to give a non-tier amount via PayPal. Is it possible to give only 10$ or should I just give 25$? It's at the bottom of the tier system. It says 'Donate your own amount'. Use that, it's what I did. ^_^ It's right above the 'Add on' section on the side-bar and the option right under the $10K option. (If a late minute 'I meant to' counts, let me know... /cough I can and will post Puss'n'boots big eyes if necessary.)
  20. Haha, I'm 100% sure that they don't want you to feel bad, Veeno. I was confused, too. What matters is that we supported the effort and the game, right?
  21. Heh, well, even if I'm too late, I added the $8 through paypal just so my intent was matched by action. Cheers for the successful drive to add funds to the game, OO! /fistbump
  22. Ah, then my upping it won't count, even with intent. I have never done a kickstarter before and thought you donated by picking tier. IF you all decide a quick PP donation still counts, I'll happily do that, but otherwise I shall abide and cheer the order on in spirit. Thanks for the answer, Farudan. /sits on the paypal page waiting for OO verdict, just in case... >_>
