I know, this is my main hate with this build as well. It makes it so much harder to choose your abilities and your skill points. You end up having to sacrifice something.

I use shields on my paladin but I've never taken it off to see if it is better without it. I'll mess around with it when I load the game up next time.

[333] Initiated Combat by walking in area
YunikoYokai5 replied to YunikoYokai5's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Really? I must have been lucky, didn't happen to me in the last build. -
Don't get me started on characters dying quickly. Christ, 3 seconds and my rogue is a pile on the ground. Even my Paladin struggles to survive more than 10 seconds of actual (non-paused) combat if I don't have my priest constantly healing stamina. My Wizard usually is the last one standing purely because he's always in the back! Poor Wilbur...

Ah, that explains why 2 stone beetles nearly killed me. I don't know if this is a 'normal' difficulty level for other RPGs but for someone like me (who is still very new to these style of games) it is a bit off-putting. I tried to beat Meredith (since I don't have the skills to deceive him) 3 times and one of those times was on easy. He still beat me. I'm wondering if all the quests have been ramped up to the point even on easy I will struggle, if not fail, to progress at all. I'm not good with strategy, one reason why I never play RTSs! XD

My first impressions are as followed: Lovely new features but they seem to have broken a lot of older stuff. And it just seems bugger than last time. I've had conversations with key characters (the farmer for 'Farmer's Plight' and Aelys' 'father') where part of the conversation says *missing string* so I missed some key bits (thankfully I knew what they were saying roughly). That didn't happen last patch. I've also gone into shops and none of the items have the names beside them (eg, Grappling hook etc). Happened in the blacksmith and the Inn. Once I entered the underground temple I was stuck if I didn't leave immediately because I was stuck in combat. A ton of little things, really. Also, have they altered the difficulty at all? I had to change the difficulty down to easy to try and beat one fight only to be defeated as if it didn't recognise that I had changed the difficulty setting. They still killed me. Although, they might just be me being a horrible player who is terrible at strategy. I also don't like how they combined skill points with abilities. I'm not sure if this is what they normally do in RPGs but maybe I want to have this ability but put my skill points into this instead. Also, images of the abilities might help rather than generic pictures. I struggled to remember what ability I really wanted because I couldn't remember the name of it. I don't know, I'm not a fan.

[333] Fog of War is not line of sight

Yeah, this is happening in the underground temple too (I saw an enemy over a wall in there) -
[333] Initiated Combat by walking in area
YunikoYokai5 posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Hi all, While playing through the beta, when I entered the underground temple area (after using a chisel and moving the statue with my BB Fighter), as soon as I moved in the area, my team entered combat mode. They would stand with weapons ready and I was unable to leave the area without reloading the autosave and leaving immediately. I even killed one of the enemies and I was still in combat. Also, the big door you meet, the text that told you what you needed to enter it refused to go away. As did the text by the entrance with the effigy. I'll get screenshots up when I can! -

Hi all! Just to list a few bugs I've noticed over my play of 301: - My main character (a paladin) doesn't run, she just walks very quickly. She keeps up with everyone but its just weird (She's human as well, by the way, if that is important) - When I was levelling up my ranger, the icon for his companion was still poking out from behind the border at the level up. Also, this icon is just filled in white. - When I continued my game, my BB Fighter was invisible but he did reappear during combat and was fine from there on. - Traps activate my combat music, even when enemies are not in the area (found this in the underground temple by the river) - There are splashing footsteps in this area on the rocky path between the entrance and the part where you can use the grappling hook. I don't see any water in this bit. - Those eye icons that tell you info about people sometimes stays on the screen permanently until I save and quit. - The edges of the area aren't in darkness sometimes, despite the fact I am in the middle of the map. This is all that I can remember from the top of my head. Not sure if these are known problems or not but better to tell you all of them just in case! - YunikoYokai

Characters leaving party in transitions

No, she's a paladin (Bleak Walkers order if that is important). -
Characters leaving party in transitions
YunikoYokai5 posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Hi all, I'm having huge issues with my character just now. It all started when two of my characters died in the spider cave in Dyrford Crossing. My BB Priest was maimed but still following me. Once I left the cave, her profile was not in my team but she herself was standing outside the cave. I cannot control her at all now. I then made 3 new characters in order to get my team back up. However, once I left the area, my BB Wizard and my new priest did the exact same thing and are now standing in Dyrford Crossing. Leaving back to the village and re-entering the crossing made my BB Fighter do the exact same thing only I do not know where he is standing now. Screenshots are below, I can also post a video if needed: http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/264/c/c/screen1_by_yunikoyokai-d8013ni.png : Screenshot showing my BB Wizard and my new Godlike, but without profile images. http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/264/b/0/screen2_by_yunikoyokai-d8013h2.png Screenshot showing my BB Priest outside the cave http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/264/6/c/screen3_by_yunikoyokai-d8013rm.png Screenshot showing the location icons of my BB Priest, Wizard and Godlike -
This pretty much sums up my experience. I've never played an isometric RPG before and I purposely kept myself in the dark about everything just to see how easy it is for someone with no knowledge to get along. In short, not very well. At all. It took me a keybind change to learn how to talk to people (which I then changed back once I realised what you had to do), took me about an hour before I realised my priest and mage had spells tucked away above their profiles and then it took me nearly losing my team to learn there were no healing spells/items and it took 2 team members to die for me to learn about maiming and team death. For someone who has only played RPGs like Dragon Age, Mass Effect and TES etc, I found this to be very confusing. I am getting the hang of it though! I don't understand the combat at all though. I just pick spells/moves and pray whatever I'm attacking kills it. I'm not sure what is a good damaging spell, a good crowd control move, what is best against certain enemies (I'll be looking at the bestiary to see if that has anything). I think this is all just a lack of research though. I'll also need to do some more research into the classes and what the level-up points actually do in terms of conversations and combat, since the game didn't really make it easy for me to figure out the difference between a monk and priest for example. Either that or I wasn't reading close enough! And the bugs...my priest has glitched out (no longer on the team but her location icon is still at the edges of my screen), a battle with a stone beetle proved my Paladin had bugged out and was immune to damage for a time (it saved me from though, so I'm not too upset), my FPS crashed horribly (dropping to about 6fps) when I started fighting a Crystal Eater (and only freed up when all but one of my characters had 'fainted'), the text in storyboard is cut off (as they team well know), characters have teleported at times and a few other things. Overall though, I've gotten used to some things and enjoying the experience. Now I just need to figure out how long the beta actually is

Can we get per rest Health restoring abilities/spells?
YunikoYokai5 replied to archangel979's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
As much as I would love health potions, I'm now at the point where I've gotten used to not having them. Although, I wished I had learned about 'maimed' before 2 characters died and a third glitched out so much she may as well be dead. Overall, while a minor inconvenience, I'll have to say no to potions (as much as I hate to say it when my characters drop to 3 HP...) -
Characters disappearing from party
YunikoYokai5 replied to Douglas H's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
My main problem is that when 3 of my characters died (2 definitely died, not sure about the third. Bloody Spider Queen), one of them followed me (the BB Priest) out of the cave and then broke from then on. Her profile is no longer in the team but her icon is floating on the edges of the map as if she were still there. I have no idea if she is alive or dead because if I go back to the cave, she'll probably be standing right there. I don't know what to do to fix this... http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/261/b/d/untitled_by_yunikoyokai-d7znho7.png
