Oh my, how backwards. The ones underground are dark and the surfacers are light.
This reminds me of a weird explanation of why Drow are coal-black when clearly they shouldn't paler than their surface-dwelling cousins -- it was supposed to be a curse from their Elven god but that's just so heavily steeped in awkward racism that it makes people uncomfortable to deal with.
Hot temperature dwelling people with the effects of Melanin on their skin is more plausible and realistic.

Interesting, interesting.
A new dungeon--yay--though I hope the backstory is as interesting as Durlag's Tower for me, with puzzles to boot. If it's a pure tactical experience with minimal story, though (Watcher's Keep paled in comparison to DT in this regard), eh.... Well, good for some replay.
Crafting and enchanting sounds interesting, though (if it got into the game) depending on the complexity and necessary "materials" (inventory management) I may or may not ignore it. Hmm. Maybe more enchanting than consumables since enchanting is low maintenance.
Early Access Beta Key for $25? Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about that, especially since I upped to $140 for that reason, but eh.... You're going to get a loooot of beta "testers." I may need to stay off the internet to avoid the crap that will probably come forth from that. Spoilers, whiny complaints, etc.
Yes but at least release will have less bugs

I don't know what other races to expect.
Truth to be told I'm more than a little surprised that there'll be dwarves and elves... again.
What can change the nature of a fantasy RPG setting?
Not a lot, I think

The minister of culture post is traditionally one of the filler posts in nordic cabinets, either used to appease some minor party head honcho into supporting the government (Finland right now), or handed off to a woman/minority/somebody from some place as far off from the capital to "promote equality". Looks like they were looking at somebody to will the second role and really hit the jackpot with her.
Personally consider both cases to be total bull****, as am a fervent believer in meritocracies - and yes, I know that as a white heterosexual male from the capital region, I will personally suffer from all kinds of affirmative action where less competent people will be chosen above me due to their personal characteristics. I'm sure that the irony will escape most.
How qualified are you for anything?

at every level of advancement
Go into depth why you're against this.

I hope the Human sub-races, if they have them, are done well. They tend to come across as a bit racist, is it Oblivion that has a black version of Humans that have enhanced physical stats but reduced intelligence?
Yes, but remember intelligence in the game represents magical affinity, which the Redguard (black humans) don't have much of. It's not that racist though, in Skyrim they're fine, indepedent power, while the rest of human provinces are getting their asses handed to them by elves.
There was a even a spin off game where you played as a redguard hero.

I expect Obsidian to cleverly twist overdone classical race tropes like the Dwarf boreal ranger alongside more interesting original races and creatures, which is why I'm not going to speculate and just sit back and wait on this aspect of the game.
Exactly I don't want evil black elves or drunk dwarves. I want sober dwarves and nice dark elves

The 4x100m.
The 110m hurdles.
The Boston Marathon.
The Indianapolis 500.
Gnomes.
A really spirited game of duck duck goose trying to pass itself off as a race.
A biathlon using arquebuses.
The 100m freestyle.
When you try to be so deep and witty it goes over people's heads.

So what races do you think we will be getting? Common sense dicates the common high fantasy setting races.
Humans
-With a multitude of sub-races
Elves
-Dark Elves?
-High Elves?
-Wild Elves?
-Etc.
Dwarfs
-Classic Deep Dwarves?
-The Wild Dwarves we saw in pic.
God-Like
But what about
Halfings?
Dragonkin?
Orcs?
And what about hybrids?
Discuss.

Overall, I don't want them to be boring

If I like saved half the continent already, I don't want farmers asking me to go feth bassilisk eggs.
Well, unless basilisks are REALLY BADASS. They should still let you OFFER to do the fetch quests, but it'd be nice if around a certain level people start being baffled when you offer to help them with their personal problems. :D
Maybe, I'd still it rather be lower level stuff only. But if has to happen, then what you suggested is nice.
"Oh hey, I know you must be totally busy and all that..."
Or maybe at that point nobles and royals are asking you for favors, and while the quest is a fetch quest, it has much deeper implications lore wise.
IDK...

Bro, you have to name it "Lake of Dark Elves" :D
Lake of Drowned Drows?
People here would like that.

I think Dark Elves should be in the game, but not as an evil cave dwelling race that we're acustomed. What if they're just a group of Elves that like to dance a lot, or hold massive festivals on their cities. Anything to break the cliche.
In that vain I don't want the light elves to be "enlightened" and good.

It isn't a goal of ours to limit a character's combat role by class, but it is a goal to make every character class have one role that it's easy for them to excel in. For example, most IE games (being derived from AD&D 2nd Edition until IWD2) effectively threw thief characters into the garbage bin, combat-wise.
1. I love this answer.
2. The Thief rules in 2nd edition AD&D basically demanded dual-classing to make the character viable at higher levels. Thief-Mages worked very well (non-magical stealth was remarkably handy for a Mage with Illusion as his prohibited school). That said, Thieves could still be effective combatants in BG because of how over-powered archery was.
Yo Silvius, guess who got permabanned from BS?
Anyways, will some classes be better at talking than fighting? Or is the "avoiding combat" thing you guys said universal?
Drows in this game ?
