  1. I'm surprised that this forum is full of strategic masterminds that never lost a fight in IE games and nobody have mentioned that optimal strategy for IE games is to rest after every encounter. Time isn't resource in IE games thus there are no drawbacks of running back to camp but it makes your party considerably stronger. If you didn't run back because you found it tedious or because you role played it doesn't matter because those are self imposed constraints and not part of the game's rules ie you were playing suboptimally. The only way to nerf the "resting strategy" without changing magic system is to make time a valuable resource (quests have time limits for example) or to respawn enemies on rest. I don't really think that neither of those solutions are good so I don't see how could you nerf "resting strategy" without changing magic system. Let's face it, no matter how we liked IE games they had some broken mechanics and were best played with self imposed challenges which is a bad design IMO.
  2. @Shevek If you take this post in to consideration: I think that you won't have to rest in order to switch your spells (although there would be other limitations) but you could use rest to reset cool-downs, replenish mana or whatever they use. Edit: Well apparently while I was searching for a post to quote Sawyer posted about resting which makes this completely useless, please ignore.
  3. Probably not, but will it be different enough? Nothing much to do now but wait and see. I think the community has made itself clear and there isn't a lot more to say. the quotes all indicate that they are looking to use cooldowns to mimic a combination of the vancian system and resting while eliminating rest spamming. I expect it to feel more like BG or IWD than DA from everything we've been told so far. I hope you are right. I recall JE saying that resting was out. Josh said that they want to have resting mechanic that will avoid rest spamming . Source
  4. I agree with the OP, they should also drop all this fantasy nonsense and make modern military FPS.
  5. But why? They said several times that they want to have some kind preparation and/or spell slots.
  6. So you are asking for an option to talk people to death? In all seriousness if you are thinking about something different than scripted dialogue (which will certainly be in the game where it makes sense) then it would look like this if they put a lot of effort in to it. So I will have to go with no on this one.
