Biowarians talking about hiveminds.The irony.
I speak only for myself, never for others. And please, stop using names like 'Biowarians' or 'Biodrones'. Thank you in advance.
-
I didn't compare "romances" to anything. The logic in his post says "Do X thing, just to sell more.", that's what I challenged.
You can't challenge logic with unlogical statements.

No Fallouts in the poll? No Arcanum?
Fallout is not fantasy. Arcanum also don't fit the genre already announced.
-
So you want the game to do anything in order to sell more? FPS games sell as well, should PE change from it's current goal to become a MW clone?
So now we start comparing romances to FPS. Good arguments. Next step - "Romances - are devil! Burn those, who propose them!"

He means people of refined tastes,of course.
Are you sure? Maybe you should ask him, before answering on his behalf? Hivemind?

By 'we' who don't want Bioware-style romances in PE. You are obviously trying to suggest that I suffer from somekind of personality disorder, very decent of you.
And those "who don't want Bioware-style romances in PE" allowed you to speak for them? Hivemind, obviously.
No, I never tried to suggest anything like that, that was just a simple question about why do you dare to speak for others.

That is exactly the thing we do not want in PE and I very much doubt, and I'd be almost certain that PE won't have stuff like that. Have you maybe tried Sims Medieval?
By saying 'we' you mean yourself and your reflection in mirror?

A BioDrone is someone who defend with fanboyism attitude games like DAII and ME3 saying that they are masterpieces.
I'm not that good in terminology of hate. I heard this word in regards to BG/BG2.

I think you are mistaken. I like Planescape: Torment more, but that's not saying BG is in any way inferior. I don't see why I should choose just one when they are both great.
I'm not trying to force you choose. You misunderstood me.

Dear Baldur's Gate games fans!
Maybe I'm mistaken - but I witnessed some kind of bad attitude here, on Obsidian forums, to people that like old Bioware games.
We are being called 'biodrones', BG series as 'badly written' and some people express opinion that we are not welcomed here.
I want to make it clear - I don't want to start BG vs PST flamewar. I regard both games as great, but different.
But I think that some fans of Obsidian regard BG as inferior IE game, cause it wasn't created by Obisidian developers. And I think that we should try to make sure, that the voice of gamers that like BG series is heard.
I just... Don't know what to say further, as you know, I'm just a hamster.
Discuss.
P.S. Again - the purpose of this post is not to force you choose your favorite game or some kind of similar flame-war stuff.

No, you're wrong (again).
BG2 had a great, open world, with lots of developed quests, some extremely well-done and tough fights, and one of the best cities in gaming history - but the writing was poor and childish at times. PST was the best game ever in terms of narrative, plot, story and writing, but not combat.
It's 100% what I expected. The difference between me and you is that I regard both games as great ones, and you think that 'writing in BG was poor and childish'.
This is major disagreement here between me and you.

We've already been told it won't be that wonderfully weird. But I certainly would prefer if narratively PE took its lessons from PS:T, yes. Just pretend there was no combat in Torment (but steal the unique spells, those were good).
It really explains everything.
-
So, ok. We have here 'cheese, obnoxius, poorly written' romances of BG2 and 'truly masterpiece' romances of PS:T.
I think that the issue is not with romances, yes? You just don't want PE to have anything in common with BG and be something like PS:T 2?
-
Cheesy, obnoxious and poorly written
Okay.
-
Wrong, they were created by Black Isle where lot of Obsidian's devs worked.
Does it make principal difference that you made this comment?
-
I just want them to write the best story they can. I understand that it won't quite be "The Master and Margarita" level, but resigning myself to accepting Bioware/Bethesda level storytelling because "it's just games, man!" is something I just refuse to do. I don't see why anyone would think differently, unless they are combatfags and do not care (which is a opinion I can understand, I just don't believe this will be a combatfag game).
Bioware of BG2 times and Bioware of DA2 times - 2 different companies.
And about combatfag. Again, let us be honest. Icewind Dale was really very combat-oriented game. Very very different from PS:T. And both were created by Obsidian.
Think about it.

They still need to experiment in the attempt to fix the Sleep-Button mechanic, because that is kind of broken (the other day I was able to sleep 18 day straight with a single use of the button, in a goblin populated cave in IWD).
It's only matter of tweaking random encounter chances, sleep interruption probability and restricting sleep in some really non-logical places. It's fine-tuning to me, not experimentation.
-
they should at least try
Maybe it is you who should try to not create over-inflated expectations for a team that creates a GAME, not some kind of grounbreaking literature classic?
-
Are you saying it doesn't exist? Wow, thin-skins are another feature of the internet I can't abide.
What 'it' are you talking about?
-
Then why are you arguing for a game feature not present in Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment?
Are you absolutely sure that PS:T and BG2 had no romances? Okay.

What I'm more concerned about is romancers / BSN weenies starting to gather on the forum like a hormone-fuelled horde of emo-locusts.
Is it necessary to abuse people every time that you don't like their opinion?

Romance develops only that one NPC, stat-based dialogue influences interaction with all charactions, how they react to it and the challenges you are presented with it. It encourages the player to use his stats to define who his character is, not to min max and then ignore it when RPing his character in dialog.
You are wrong. Romance doesn't develop only one NPC - it has a potential to develop all NPCs as the interaction between NPCs will change.
And btw. Romance in this situation greatly increases replayability of this game and it increases it more drastically than low-int dialogues.

Why the hell should I settle for less?
Hm... I don't know... Maybe because writers at the Obsidian with all do respect for their talent can't be compared to Dostoevsky?

Yes, sure. But they clearly stated that they want it based on IE games, that were originally created by Bioware.
