  1. es had romances foisted on them by the publishers. Several of important developers are on record saying that they dislike them.

    So far I have this:

Not entirely what I had in mind but still informative.

Yes, very informative. J.E. Sawyer doesn`t hate romance in games, he just hates how it`s portrayed in games usually. Seems he agrees with me based on his post in that thread.

I hate repeating myself but do they have the resources to make such better romances? We'll see how much money they managed to cajole from the faithful.

  2. Nah. I don't want:

    - impossibly hard boss fights that'd crush your soul even after you'd find everything else a walk in the park.

    - to remember or write down instructions, I want the important bits automatically in my journal (or whatever)

    - no team members dying (that just meant a reload, even back then)

    - some stupid baldurs gate/nwn2 inventory system with 100 slots of 5x5 pixel images you can't even see

    - to spend 30 minutes after a fight applying ointments and minor cure spells to get the party back to speed

...or any of the other old crap, I just what the good stuff.

But as far as difficulty goes, please include a "crazy masochist exteme hardcore ironman" setting where you'll only have 1 hitpoint,

will die of a whisper and your computer will reformat if you do. Because even then someone will complain it's too crazy easy.

Dear god, you are the decline personified.

I very much like his statement here, which also sums up why I dislike Bioware's approach while still hoping for something better:

But I don't think they have the budget on this project to go down the "more" path, so I would them rather do without. Personal preference (although objectively true )

Also if you want to see Biowarean waaahmbulance in action take a step this way:

  5. you are a sad little man. all the obsidian games had romance in them, why is it so outrageous to assume that this one will as well?

Obsidian games had romances foisted on them by the publishers. Several of important developers are on record saying that they dislike them. We just do not want them to succumb to disgruntled ex-Bioware fans pressure.

Coincidentally DA3 has been announced. Just saying.

  6. @ Grimlorn

You are a strange person. You don't seem to remember or understand your own posts

This is a RPG. Not a sex/social simulator for deviants who can't build a relationship in real life.

This is clearly an insult, you are suggesting that people that want sex in the game must be sexual deviants

I admit I am a sexual deviant. I watch porn and go to stripclubs. But I can understand why others would be insulted as this is not a positive view for many

Secondly you seem to think that your definition of an RPG is sacrosanct and we can't deviate from it. You say that your view of romances in RPG is fact, its not. Its your opinion and subjective.

What is fact is that the poll is clearly showing that most people want sex and relationships in this game.

So you need to deal with it, sorry :)

Most people posting on these forums at this moment. So not a lot of people, in truth.

  7. All right, if it will make you feel better - I am pretty selfish, do not want any resources dedicated to making what I view as glorified dating simulators and yes in this case my wants are very superior to yours. Objective fact.

think of it this way: imagine how much more complete that the rushed ending of ME3 would be if Bioware spent all of those long hours of creating romance cutscenes, dialogue, animations and acting.
Not at all - the ending was product of Bio writers being incompetent lackwits with delusions of literary mastery. Not even two years more time of development could have saved that trainwreck.

  8. If they won't put in time sensitive quests it would be nice if they avoided urgency in quest descriptions then.

"Oh noes, noble adventurers, the trolls have taken away my sheep (and my wife) and they intend to have them for dinner on the morrow. Please rescue them!"

    three weeks later

    Oooookay...

  9. It's quite mind-boggling to see the absolute rejection of an open system. It takes a very close-minded group to reject something like that. The thing is, a non-restrictive system would not change the way you play your game in the least. You can use whatever arbitrary rules you want! If you really believe that Fighter with full strength and constitution shouldn't be able to have a full charisma as well because that comes out to more than 32 points on some arbitrary scale, that's fine! Play your strong fighter, and restrict yourself you non-charismatic dialog and actions. The person who is okay being a strong and tough fighter who is also charismatic and intelligent can play that! A fantasy world can be whatever you want it to be. Build it from the ground up so that you can be the character you want to be, and let the game adapt to that. They can develop organically together.

And how exactly, pray tell, would you balance the game around this special snowflake philosophy? Cheat codes for everyone?

  10.

Okay, so your saying that games like Fire Emblem for the 3DS and Harvest Moon and all that are 'boddice rippers' as you so eloquintly put it should take out the romance options despite being a big factor in it? Fire Emblem has as well for the 3DS since the inclusion of My Unit and the generations with romance options been the highest selling one to date.

What? You want a game where it will stroke your ego and your the hero and everyone sings your praises and everyone idolizes you and no 'true' love? Awww, does someone have attention issues?

Romance is everywhere, romance inspires, romance ALSO has a dark side; ie, jealousy, obsession and all that which could add a whole LOT to a game.

The hell do console TBS games (and whatever Harvest Moon is, I never could tell) have to do with PE? And if anything is massively ego stroking in modern games it's the romances and all the player sexual characters who see you as the centre of their otherwise pathetic worlds. Coincidentally I do not remember this "dark side of relationships" ever explored in wRPGs. Do tell.
