This can be a trap though. In some cases in recent games, the characters with romance arcs are the best developed and have the most content...IF you romance them. If not, be prepared to have a total of three conversations with them because going further ends with them mind controlling your character into having sex with them. hehe

If romances are included
zrani replied to zrani's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
While I appreciate this post and others like it can we please return to the original topic of the Types of romance and references that people would like to see rather than the old have/have not debate. Edit: If you wish to continue that discussion please post here: http://forums.obsidi...ny/page__st__60 I apologize. In terms of types of Romances? Hm. If they're going to be there I'd like to see them be.. not up front, or front loaded, if you catch my meaning. Regardless of type, it shouldn't be obvious up front what was in the cards, what you find beneath the surface of a character as you get closer and closer to them should be less predictable and I never want to see a character and go, "He/She is 'the' love interest" in terms of some obvious character pushed on you unless you utterly beat them with a stick to make them go away. But the particular types? Eh. I don't want that obvious one that just fawns all over you. That's annoying, at least it is to me. In fact I'd almost like to see a character the had a negative relationship with you, at first, slowly, and I do mean slowly, over the course of the 'possibly' become an ally, and then 'possibly' become a friend and, if achieved, 'possibly' be a love interest. If, and I stress if, your choices and actions are something they're okay with but not unless, their moral compas being a very hard wired one with no room for variation. On the other hand, I'd also sort of be interested in a romance option that was, in a way, the opposite, but not in that they're instantly drawn to you. Rather a sort of character whose moral compass allows them to overlook your actions and choices if they like you and you treat them well. Someone that's willing to stand by you, regardless of your choices, accept your choices and go with them, if, and I stress if, you earn their loyalty. Thank you this is what I was looking for. -

I loved BG1+2, PST, Arcanum and other old school rpgs and despite da2 being a fiasco and the last ten minutes of ME3 being utter-------- on a stick, I loved DA:O and the Mass effect series while not a traditional or old school rpg, was still A ROLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Playing Game....... you played a role ------> therefore it was and RPG or if you are being finicky an RPG with shooter combat or an RPG/ shooter hybrid. It was still a great game series and in the 2nd and third games despite the increase in shooter elements the morality system continued to blur the lines of conventional morality and had some great moments where small stories or characters developed throughout the three games. It is unfair to split the two groups, it is not the way it is!

While not essential for me, a romance adds to the effect my character has on the (hopefully) deep world and is part of basic character development. Besides its an RPG i like my character to develop relationships with friends and LI's, in general my character is a listener not a loner. I do however agree that a good friendship should not be gated by romancibility. See dakon or mort as friends in PST or ignus and nordom as a mentor.

What are your favorite Romance options?
zrani replied to Darth Revan=Boss's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Visas gets much better with the mod. Same for me, handmaiden is too naive, disciple is a really bad character and as a guy attons romance doesn't gel for me.- 12 replies

TSLRCM is great played through twice with it installed as a male brianna (handmaiden) and Visas are romanceable, as female atton and disciple are although the are undercurrents with bao dur.- 12 replies

BG2 and PS:T had great romances. In BG2 your LI was killed, turned into a vampire, you were forced you to kill them as part of the main story line no matter which companion you romanced. A purely optional side quest allowed you to resurrect them but only if you had done a side quest earlier in the game. as a male character 1 of your LI's could become pregnant, one you could sleep with repeatedly except for one time, when doing so would end the romance forever because the LI sees the relationship as purely sexual and decides that's the end of it. The third LI is recently widowed and a little older than you. In PS:T you could romance both LI's, Annah and FFG separately at the same time (and if you were careful they would not break it off). There was no sex but you promised to see them again (as one was an immortal succubus the other a tiefling) after serving hundreds (or thousands) of years in the blood war. These romances are great, far better than a group of young, single, twenty something (equivalent) "playersexual" characters. A romance done well adds a depth that cannot!!!!!!! be ignored and can make a game more impactfull and the characters three dimensional. even (AND ONLY) DA:O's romances were ok. Eg. exploiting the glitch that allows you to romance morrigan, then lelliana, then zevran. As long as the romance is complex, unique and not a minigame with ""perfect score you get to sleep with LI.....game finished"", romances should be included.

As long as its cosmetic and everyone gets it in the end (even if its years later), it'll be fine. -
