meh. shelling out some money for Neeson is hardly in the same budget-breakign category as shelling out for Tom Cruise or something. Neeson is fairly recognizeable charcater actor for the most part. Not omg-movie-star! talent cost. It's like hiring Fed Ward or something. Character actors tend to be better at acting then "stars" anyway.

Metal of the 80s isn't anything like the metal of today. I don't even like metal and I still can hear (and see) the difference.

I have to agree with that. Enough to actually comment. Bethsoft seems a trifle defensive at the moment. Perhaps understandable, I suppose.

I got about halfway through my Fallout game, then got kinda bored and put it aside. So then I went out and got the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion. So now I am playing a new game of Oblivion, but I haven't installed SHivering Isles yet until the final patch for it is released. I woudl be playing STALKER actually, but I am waiting for their patches as well. SO actually I am not really currently playing anything I guess, merely waiting for patches. swell

I registered, but mostly because its the whole Bethsoft forum. I used to be active there, but my last account got purged long ago, during the last board re-org. I don't really have much interest in posting about FO3 until I am actually playing the game, and I have 0 interest in getting involved in flame wars that were already really old and tired 5 years ago. But you might see me in the ES forums again! Haven't posted there since shortly after MOrrowind was released. *waves*

Any build with a 10 agility and a high endurance and at least one tagged combat skill of any sort is completely playable. Unarmed/Melee fighters will have a disadvantage outdoors, but in cqb inside or even outside in high cover areas they are awesome. In Fallout I had one character who let Harry take her back to meet the Lt, and she defeated the lt with only the super sledge when she was a weak level 7 or 8 character.

A lot of people couldn't find Caius Cosades, the Imperial Spymaster who starts the Main Quest in Morrowind. This despite the fact they were told by 3 seperate NPCS how to find him and had set of directions and a map placed in their inventory. I guess the devs got tired of the whining from said fans, and ergo: the little red pointy compass! Being observant and paying attention is not a requirment for gaming. rightly or wrongly, I don't know.

Your answer is "psycho". Now go. Psycho eh? Go on. Tell me more of this "psycho." What does it do and more importantly, where can I find it? Be careful, its highly addicting. Regardless of your normal DR (psycho enhanced or not), criticals can, do, and will, bypass that and inflict full damage anyway.

well, after some 100 hours plus (probably close to 200 hours) of flawless playtime, the game has suddenly decided that it doesn't want to run anymore. Not a single crash in all that time and now I can't go more than 1 minute or so without some kind of crash. I even started a new game and boom instant crash. And I didn't change a single thing on my computer! Not one. I never even got to finish the damn game. flurgh. I think I'll go play Fallout instead. edit: Although I do have the automatic updatery thing for Windows turned on and it installed some doo-dads from MS last night. Maybe that is th eproblem. Maybe not. WHo knows woohoo computers! Gotta love them. Where's my !@$# XBOX, gdamnit?

I'm actually getting the itch to play Fallout again. I thought those days were gone for good.

*suddenly imagines an unofficial Van Buren TC by J.E. Sawyer* However, for many people (myself included) the SPECIAL system is a large part of Fallout. And if Bethesda decides to scrap/drastically alter that system, it becomes questionable how much the modders could affect it. Many important gameplay features (such as the combat system) are usually hardcoded into the engine. that's true, of course. But modders can be pretty resourceful. Look at Oblivion: Modders took what might be the worst skill/leveling system every released in a crpg and made it mostly tolerable. If special and action points aren't in the engine, then there are limits to making it EXACTLY like Fallout 1/2, but there may be ways to simulate some of the aspects effectively. -

That;s actually the best point I've ever heard re: Bethesda's Fallout 3. If it's got the same mod potential as MW/OB, then fallout fans have basically the best tool set to build a hardcore FO3 as they could ever want. -
It's like looking into a tiny crystal ball filled with wonder, innit?

I kinda agree with that if you are talking FO, due to the very limited number of Big Guns. But even in FO, if you built your pc properly Big Guns were the most devestating force in the game. You had to understand the game systems well to make it work though. I had one pc that wiped out the entire Bos with the submachine gun. Imagine if she had been using the minigun instead! Which was the weapon she was built for; the wipe out of the BoS with the submachine gun was just a lark to see if I could do it. In Fo2, coupled to the right character build, Big Guns were capable of laying waste to entire areas. I never found a more effective combat pc than a big gun specialist in FO 2.

I always found melee and unarmed to be complimentary to one of the firearm skills but not a replacement for them What I usually did was pair either melee or unarmed with a big guns character, since big gun users tended to be pretty buff by default. Melee and Unarmed are useful to offset some of the liabilties of the big guns as well. Unarmed has a lot more use in quests and things then melee does, although blinding people with the ripper was always fun. Both melee and unarmed get a lot more crits than the gun skills. The super sledge is one one of the best weapons in the game and by taking the right perks and traits it can be reduced to an AP cost of 1. Not bad. Pretty awesome. edit: However, charging into the teeth of a enclave patrol waving a super sledge is not going to keep you alive long.

Bolts have 2 uses: 1) Throw them to locate the edges of anomalies so you can slip around them. This usually isn't neccessary, but sometimes it can be the onyl way to get to stashes. 2) Throw them into burner and electro anomalies to discharge them, you can then usually run through while they are discharging without taking damage. Just make sure there isn't a second anomaly right behind the first, otherwise you'll run thriough the first and then get blasted in the one right behind it. Which has happened to me mre than a few times! heh The answer to your second questyion is: Use the bolts! natch.

It's due to the fact RPG's are so damn asset heavy. Do you mean in terms of development time? You can only spend so much time devleoping each asset since there are so many? I'm not sure I can buy that fully. All the great hair and faces mods that came out later were done by "amateurs" who lack access to the kind of resources that a large studio like Bethsoft can provide, plus for the most part all the mods made better use of the resources, lower poly counts etc. And Bethsoft has shown that it can get better if it wants with Oblivion. Not that Oblivion is great, but it is an improvement. Obiviously, a dev team has to priortize, but I think in a crpg making human and humanoid forms that look good (and by good, I mean lifelike, not "pretty") would seem pretty important.

Just the fact that any games character models would be compared to MW's is damning enough. MW was butt-ugly from a human being perspective. I'd probably give the nod to NWN2 there, but only because the MW faces were SO awful. Really, the low standards that crpgs seem to have for their character models and body art is kinda depressing.
